Spinning Gold: New York Times Latest Whore to sleep with EDM - Kaskade remix
11/10/2011 01:15:00 PM
drugs, edm, kaskade, new york times, nyt, spinning gold
This morning I was greeted with Page E1 of the NYT . On it was no other then Kaskade, aka Ryan Raddon. He was at Roseland Ballroom for a 2 night gig over the halloween weekend and from what i heard he killed it. Kaskade has quickly built momentum and his new cd release Fire & Ice has helped propelled it. I'd say no one in the game is flying as high as him except Avicii.
Back to the article, its been en vogue for the mainstream media to jump on the EDM bandwagon for about a year now. Nevertheless, i love it, i hate to say it, but i love it. The more attention the genre gets the more eyes and ears that are going to venture over to the genre. At the end of the day thats what matters. More people equals bigger and better raves and festivals in the world.
In the article Kaskade talks about the ordinary things surrounding EDM: drugs and the genre's rise. Kaskade attributes the rise to hip-hop fatigue. I couldn't agree more that hip-hop fatigue has paralyzed its genre. It has driven artists into the edm scene to get fresh beats to mask their tired drum and bass beats. Not to mention, it was only a matter of time when people got tired of the classlessness of hip-hop. We get it, u have bitches, money, hoes, and rims guess what your colleagues back in the hood don't. EDM provides upbeat, euphoric tracks while also maintaining a darker side given the producers preferences.
The last thing Kaskade touches on is drugs. “Club culture is about leaving your cares behind, and I am trying to create that environment. I honestly don’t think you need to be high to enjoy that...Are people taking drugs? Yes. I’m not naïve,” he added. “I know that there are people out there who are high. Yeah, I wish they wouldn’t do that. You can still enjoy this performance and have a great experience sober.” We couldn't agree more, with angel on your shoulder on the speakers how much higher could u get??
