Griz at the Middle East: Show Review

Last Saturday night, Griz trucked up to Boston, and brought his winter tour to the wild Middle East Club in Cambridge.  The small basement was packed from the stage to the back of the club with passionate fans dying to hear some funky sax and hard hitting beats.  Before Griz took the stage and blew the crowd away, Manic Focus did an amazing job getting everybody hyped up and ready to go.  By the time Griz strolled to the mic, fans had to squeeze by just to get around as the sold out show screamed for Grant (Griz.)  Instantly, the crowd erupted in pleasing cheers as he dropped his brand new song “Gettin Live” and broke out the funky saxophone sounds, setting the mood for the show.

Avicii Releases New Tracks in Promo Tape

Ever-evolving Swede Avicii has just released a new promo mix 2013, featuring his new tracks from his new album debuted at Ultra Music Festival last month. The mix includes a very... interesting choice to layer a faux crowd noise down across the whole thing. We wonder why Tim chose to add in that seemingly unnecessary sound for a digitally released promo mix.

Listen below and sound off in the comments what you think of Avicii's new style!

History of the Music Business Illustrated GIF

Forty years of vinyl, discs, and downloads in 40 seconds

(Spin.comContrary to popular belief, the music industry's sales M.O. has been in flux for quite some time. Hard as it is to imagine, there was a time when the 8-track gave vinyl a run for its money. And cassettes usurped just about everything until CDs entered the picture. The dominance of the disc was very real indeed, but if we can learn anything from the long view, it's that a new technology is bound to come along and replace the old — and that none of them has killed music yet despite the usual outcry to the contrary.

Thanks to the RIAA, via Digital Music News, we can witness 40 years of music sales in 40 seconds or less. The pie chart GIF below starts in 1973 and ends in 2012, and is chopped up according to the song and album sales methods of the day. Witness the beginning of the digital revolution in 2004, when the nearly sated Pac-Man that was the CD slowly got its maw pried open by a boom of new mediums. It's also pretty cool to see vinyl come back into the picture. (Keep fighting the good fight, Record Store Day.) It should be noted that the size of the pie does not correlate with the amount of money made overall in a single year.

Markus Schulz Boston Show Preview ~ Scream Tour Edition

By Justin:

The man, the myth, the legend, Markus Schulz, more adoringly known by his fans as the ‘Unicorn Slayer’ is stopping by Royale Boston tonight as part of his Scream Bus Tour across America. He is coming fresh off his electrifying performance at ASOT600 in NYC a couple weeks back, where he combined forces with Ferry Corsten to announce their new EDM supergroup, New World Punx.

For those of you who are just now learning about the great Markus Schulz, back in September he was voted America's Number 1 DJ by DJ Times and ranked #13 on this year’s DJ Mag top 100 DJs. He has been around the block since the early 90’s and has worked with numerous artists across all music borders. Over the years, he has been able to mold a unique sound, combining progressive house and trance. He has even released more progressive edged tracks under the alias Dakota to rave reviews. He has contributed to the A State of Trance radio show since its inception, and also hosts his own show titled 'The Global DJ Broadcast'. He has two amazing singles out right now off his brand new album Scream that are littering the airwaves, 'Love Rain Down' feat. Seri, and 'Nothing Without Me' feat. Ana Diaz.

Considering that he has just played on one of the biggest stages in the world, to be able to hear him spin at Royale will be quite the treat. The sound system there may not have been able to handle Modestep’s pounding bass last week, but I’ll put money on Schulz’s smooth synths and ambient vocals sounding just fine throughout the night.

If you aren’t excited already, get excited, because this will be an experience you won’t forget. There are still tickets available, get them while you can because you really don’t want to miss seeing this legend in action.
