Bingo Players to Hit Hub Sunday

One of the most anticipated shows this fall is mere days away, as the Dutch house duo, Bingo Players, are set to deliver us a Sunday Funday of epic proportions at the House of Blues on Landsdowne.

Sadly, as they announced on their website in July, only one of the two, Maarten, will be playing their live shows, due to Paul being diagnosed with cancer. Although he is still putting in work in the studio, Paul has elected to stay home in order to seek treatment. We wish him a speedy recovery!

But the show must go on! Hot off a summer filled with festival appearances, from Tomorrowland to EDC Vegas, with many in between, Bingo Players are embarking on a frenzied tour across North America, with Boston as the third stop. The pair has had incredible success in recent years, with their 2012 single, "Rattle" becoming mainstay in countless sets by other artists. Their 2013 release, "Get Up (Rattle)", an upgraded version of the original landed in the Top 10 in countries across Europe, including the Number 1 in the UK.

We can't wait to see what they've got in store for us on Sunday night!

NOTE: keep in mind, if there is a Game 7 of the ALCS, it will coincide directly with the show (Fenway is right across the street from HOB), which could make getting to and from the show rather complicated. Plan accordingly and GO RED SOX!!! And most importantly, get ready to RATTLE!!!!!

Zedd House of Blues Show Review

As an overwhelming majority of Bostonians now know, German Dj, Zedd's show at the House of Blues ended in terrible tragedy. While Zedd's performance was truly memorable, we lost a member of Boston's vibrant electronic music community, and EDM Boston would like to extend its deepest condolences to anyone affected by the young woman's passing.

Although we in no way downplay the significance of this event, our community must move forward, and one of the most important steps in that process is to remember the reasons behind our passion for this music. I believe that had the tragedy not occurred, this show would have gone down as one of the best to hit Boston in some time. While it has received a tremendous amount of negative publicity, the show was a positive experience for most of those in attendance.

After a summer in which there was essentially one venue in the city that attracted major electronic acts, it was a welcome change to be back within the friendly confines of the House of Blues Boston. The building was packed near to capacity, and from start to finish, there was an atmosphere of excitement and electricity. With fans practically spilling over the railings, Zedd took the stage to a thunderous round of applause.

As the first stop on Zedd's Clarity Tour, we were among the first to witness his new high-grade production. Combining eye-popping stage visuals with impressive Dj skills, Zedd kept the crowd in a frenzy from start to finish. While hits such as his chart-topper "Clarity" were inevitably included in his set, he went beyond his own production to make it a true DJ set. He played tracks by house music giants such as Swedish House Mafia and Hardwell, as well as remixes and mashups of his own, lacing each track with his own original interpretation.

Displaying his remarkable ability to read his crowd and pick his songs accordingly, Zedd seemed to control the pulse of the crowd. While there were moments when it seemed like the roof would blow away, there were also melodic points in his set during which the crowed seemed to sway and move as one. During his encore performance of "Spectrum", the crowd seemed overcome with a sense of joy and togetherness.

While we can by no means disregard the tragedy that took place, we should use this opportunity to move in a positive direction, and focus on our love of this wonderful music. It is our responsibility to learn from these events, and move the community in a positive direction. And if we can harness the unity that was felt that night, I like our odds.

Zedd: An Artist Fusing EDM and Pop

Fresh off rocking the House of Blues Boston, Zedd has a lot to look forward to. The 23 year old has been a hit in the EDM scene for nearly three years, ever since winning a Beatport remix competition and going on tour with Skrillex and Porter Robinson.

This year, though, is a big one for the young EDM star. Since last fall, rumors have been flying about his collaboration with Lady Gaga on her upcoming Art Pop album. The album doesn’t have a release date yet, but Gaga reportedly has one goal - “to make history.”

Zedd at the House of Blues Boston Review

Have you ever sat down on the floor during a show? If you were at Winter White Tour’s last stop at the sold-out House of Blues featuring breakthrough artist Zedd last Wednesday, you would have. Zedd was called back onstage to the echoing roar of “One more song! Woo!” by the wild Boston crowd. The chant was answered with a crazy remix of Zedd’s infamous song “Spectrum”, as the entire crowd sang along. During the buildup, Zedd got on his mic and asked everyone in the building to get low on the floor and go crazy when the bass drops; and crazy we went. The entire crowd rocketed into the air as the smoke machines pumped confetti over the swarm of energetic fans whose eyes were wide with amazement due to the lasers and strobes lights. It was a euphoric moment that wont soon be forgotten by anyone that was there.

Boys Noize XTC- New Synthy Single from Out of the Black

While this track might have been out for a few months now, Boys Noize just released his new album "Out of the Black", featuring XTC as a single. XTC has been backed by A-Trak, Justice, Chemical Brothers, and other well-known DJs. It's being played in major sets and causing mass dancefloor chaos.

This song breaks down into funky synths and whispering, techtonic vocals that Alexander Ridha is so well known for, being a techno producer in this electro age. The lyrics are sultry and infused with the seductive-ness of the EDM scene. Simply put, this track is meant to be listened to at HIGH VOLUME. Pulsating bass and synthetic buildups create a track that is begging to be remixed, but still showcases Boys Noize's skills as a talented producer.

"Out of the Black" was released Boysnoize Records on October 2 and is definitely worth picking up if you like this track or if you like the modern sounds of techno. Buy it on Beatport.

Even better than the album is that Boys Noize is coming to Boston on December 2! EDMBoston will be there with you at House of Blues to be covering this show that you must go to. After seeing Boys Noize at Electric Zoo, he is an act not to be missed.

Crystal Castles Boston Show

Crystal Castles, the electronic duo comprised of singer Alice Glass and producer Ethan Kath, are no strangers to a crowd going wild when they take the stage. The Toronto-based experimental-glitch-electro band have had a cult following since 2008, when their first self named album was released. Since then, they’ve been known for their alternative sound comprised of Gameboy noises, pulsating drum beats, and self-produced songs that provide listeners an insight into a nuanced form of modern EDM.

On October 6, 2012, the crowd at the House of Blues Boston was nothing short of wild as Crystal Castles took the stage. As they began their first song at their Boston Show, Glass kneeled on the stage in front of an iconic image of a veiled woman and a child, channeling the energy she would need to perform that night. Opening with their newest song “Plague”, she quickly dismissed the mic stand as needless and continued the set, as an untethered energy whirled around the stage into “Wrath of God”.

Mimosa Boston Show Announced. Tickets are FREE...Details

Just like us, when you hear “free tickets” we‘re sure you can’t help but be skeptical. That circumstance becomes ever more iffy when the free show we’re hearing about is at the House of Blues and the show is MiM0SA. Rest assured EDM Boston readers, we’ve looked into it and Mismosa Boston show, presented by Budweiser on Thursday August 16 is indeed free!

Now if you haven’t heard of MiM0SA yet, you need to get him on you’re DJ radar and keep him there.  MiM0SA, also known as Tigran, has taken the West coast by storm and quickly worked his popularity east. He is a 23-year-old dubstep, hip-hop/grime producer who has played at festivals such as Red Rock, Electric Zoo, and Summer Camp.  His set this summer at Camp Bisco has been raved about and you can read more about iton EDMBoston's Camp Bisco Review.  

Now Budweiser is presenting Boston with a free Mimosa show. Whether you’ve heard of him, seen him before, or are his biggest fan, this is just something you can’t turn down. 

MiM0SA is known for bending genres and soundscapes. He intertwines Moombahton, hip-hop, downtempo, dubstep, and anything else he can get his hands on. 

Unfortunately (like many EDM shows this summer) the event is 21+ but signing up and receiving tickets is as easy as 1, 2, 3. All you have to do is go to the MIM0SA @ House of Blues in Boston, MA Facebook event and click on the link. From there, you will be asked to ‘like’ Budweiser on Facebook and then enter your email address. I received my ticket within a day, but some of my friends took longer. If you don’t receive an email you will be able to show your ID at will call and get your ticket there.

Boston Get's #Jacked by @DJAfrojack, Review @djquintino @R3hab

Within a two-week period, Boston has played host to 3 of the biggest DJ’s in the world, Kaskade, Avicii, and Afrojack.  Some would argue that the city is in the midst of kicking off its biggest music transitional period in years, but on the night of June 27th that wasn’t the topic of conversation.  Rather, Bostonians and New Englanders alike were focused on gathering at the House of Blues on Lansdowne Street to take in the sights and sounds of Afrojack’s Jacked Tour.

Much like other EDM tours that have come to town, Afrojack brought other DJ’s in tote.  However, his friends and label mates that opened his concert brought the skills, music catalogs, and fan followings of acts that would ordinarily take headline billings at the most notable of nightclubs across the world.  As a result, this wasn’t your ordinary concert that you arrive at just in time for the headline act and skip the opener.

2 DayGlow Boston Shows Announced - The E.N.D. Tour

September 17 and 18th will see the Boston House of Blues covered in paint, as well as everyone within its 4 walls!  Boston, in all its glory, landed back to back dates on the new The E.N.D. (or "Electronic Never Dies") tour.  If you peak on to the tour calendar you will see Boston is almost the only city to get the special 2 day stand.

The E.N.D. tour promises new performances and more paint.  Also it appears from the new pictures on Dayglow’s Facebook fan page and the new tour art, that the “Dayglow” name is also being phased out and “Life In Color.” will be the new moniker.

Any bets that "The E.N.D" had anything to do with the Mayan calendar?

Steve Aoki comes to Boston: EDM Boston Events

You read that right.  Steve Aoki will be descending on Boston Thursday February 16.  He will have his friend Datsik in tote.  Datsik is a top tier dubstep producer and dj.  It should make for a great show.

Steve Aoki shows generate so much raw energy and Aoki really gives the fans a great experience.  He is a true rockstar not a DJ.  When Aoki performed at royale, last year, it was nothing less then amazing.  Aoki did his traditional inflatable raft crowd surf and was popping bottles of champagne all night.  Looking forward to this one.
