Martin Solveig Royale Review & Video Part 2
After ready 2 go, Martin Solveig transitioned into Where Them Girls at. But before the track began with the vocal intro, Solveig came to the mic and apologized for playing a french styled intro. He promised to play more American music. The EDM Boston team was very shocked. We know Solveig had a very pop production background. However, we were expecting for a full out house show, not a top 40 performance. Why else would we pay to see solveig, if he was going to give us more Kiss radio?
Fear not. While Solveig, definitely played to Boston's stereotype of a non-EDM town, he was instrumental and aggressive at points in his set. He dropped Mush Mush after his third track, which was an electro remix of Britney's "Waiting for". On his twitter, a fan asked for a britney tribute for her 30th birthday. (Personally we could have gone with out but I have to say, Solveig had a great remix on hand.) Next, Solveig dropped "Technologic" vocals over the build up of Mush Mush.
Four songs into the set and Solveig was building some amazing energy. And then Martin Solveig hit us with a great on the spot live mashup of Nirvana's "Smells like teen spirit" via hot keys he had programed on his cdj-2000s. Martin looped teen spirit at the end of the famous intro to create his own build up of energy. When he released it, we were greated with the pulsing bass line of Mush Mush's break down. Mush Mush has developed itself into quiet the anthem. The bass hit hard on Royale's system, and it was impossible for me to keep the camera steady as I danced.
