Bingo Players Boston Show Review

By Mike Hurowitz

We at EDM Boston would like to send our love and support to Paul Baümer, one half of Bingo Players, as he continues to seek medical treatment following an announcement that he was recently diagnosed with cancer. As they have demonstrated, however, the show must go on! Thus, Maarten Hoogstraten took the stage solo on Sunday night, bringing the pair's production to an eager audience at Boston's House of Blues on Landsdowne.

Whether studying for midterms or fighting off a hangover from Saturday night's raucous celebration of the Red Sox taking home the Pennent, it seemed many people decided to stay home, with an unusually small crowd coming out to the generally packed HOB. This didn't stop Maarten from bringing the roof down, however, as those in attendance can attest.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the show was the stage production. Maarten stood high above the crowd on an elevated platform with a facade of 20 or so large boom-boxes, with two giant screens made to look like speakers on either side of the facade. The "speakers" were actually LED screens, pulsating and flashing to the beat, with the image changing sporadically to match each track.

Standing on his perch, Maarten sampled a wide array of different artists, he added the duo's banging Dutch House sounds to tracks such as Lana Del Ray's "Summertime Sadness," Fatboy Slim's "Eat Sleep Rave Repeat," Avicii's "Silhouettes," and many more.

With the lineup of shows coming to Boston this fall just starting to heat up, keep track of the EDM Boston Calendar of Events so you never miss another event!

Bingo Players to Hit Hub Sunday

One of the most anticipated shows this fall is mere days away, as the Dutch house duo, Bingo Players, are set to deliver us a Sunday Funday of epic proportions at the House of Blues on Landsdowne.

Sadly, as they announced on their website in July, only one of the two, Maarten, will be playing their live shows, due to Paul being diagnosed with cancer. Although he is still putting in work in the studio, Paul has elected to stay home in order to seek treatment. We wish him a speedy recovery!

But the show must go on! Hot off a summer filled with festival appearances, from Tomorrowland to EDC Vegas, with many in between, Bingo Players are embarking on a frenzied tour across North America, with Boston as the third stop. The pair has had incredible success in recent years, with their 2012 single, "Rattle" becoming mainstay in countless sets by other artists. Their 2013 release, "Get Up (Rattle)", an upgraded version of the original landed in the Top 10 in countries across Europe, including the Number 1 in the UK.

We can't wait to see what they've got in store for us on Sunday night!

NOTE: keep in mind, if there is a Game 7 of the ALCS, it will coincide directly with the show (Fenway is right across the street from HOB), which could make getting to and from the show rather complicated. Plan accordingly and GO RED SOX!!! And most importantly, get ready to RATTLE!!!!!

Remember to check back at EDM Boston next week for our review of the show!

Bingo Players, Electric Zoo Performance Explained from Their Eyes

Our route to New York City was not your average one; from our home in Holland we jetted over to Mexico City to a show, then one day later we were in Las Vegas DJ'ing one the best pool parties of the summer. Finally, 48 epic hours later, we found ourselves en route to Electric Zoo -- our plane touched down in Newark at 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

After three and a half hours of sleep we were off to Electric Zoo, in our 15-passenger van with our crew -- ready to play. Once we arrived on Randall's Island we had a quick meeting with our management team to share some of our new tracks that we would showcase later in our set. After the meeting we spent some time talking to our fellow DJ's in the artists lounge alongside the East River.

One short hour later, we took the Main Stage to play for a massive crowd! When we were on the stage, you saw us perform, we saw you in the crowd, but could you tell what we were thinking?

Festivals are a time for us to see...

Bingo Players Review Bijou Boston - Part 1

Last Tuesday night the Bingo Players , came to Boston to showcase their talents. With only a days rest in between their Ultra Music Festival Performance and their show at Bijou Boston, anything was possible to happen at their gig.

We sat down with the members of the Bingo Players, Marteen and Paul, and got the chance to ask them questions about their ultra weekend. They were very open and even went through their Ultra set with us. They talked about their new track id’s they played at Ultra ,and what fans have to look forward to from the group. It was very interesting to hear what the Bingo players had to say about the EDM movement and where they thought it was going.

When we asked the Bingo Players about how they would play their set in Bijou’s intimate environment, Marteen said he was looking forward to going a lot “deeper” with a smaller crowd. If you haven’t been to Bijou, the room hosts 350 people, in what looks like a mini arena. The VIP couches are filled with people standing and dancing on the perimeter and the dance floor is in between the couches. It’s a spacious area that leads right into the very front of the stage. Fans in the front can easily reach up and give the talent a high five or simply lock eyes. No other venue in Boston offers the closeness that Bijou Does. Having the crowd so close is what allows the artists to go “deep” with the fans.

The Bingo players took clear advantage of this, not only musically. But also grabbing fans iphones and taking pictures of themselves, or recording there performance on stage. Paul and Marteen played a set consisting of….

BINGO PLAYERS EDIT - Carl Tricks - Mad Dash [RELEASED]

The Bingo Players have released their newest remix just a day before their Boston Gig.  That's right the duo, will be playing at Bijou tomorrow night(tuesday) and EDMBoston will be on hand.

Mad dash has an electrified melody that carries it through the build up and releases with a Hard drop.  This isn't Big Room, this is Electro House Bingo Players Fashion.

How dynamic are the Bingo players?  They have ability to kill you with a Big Room Track like "Mode"(released in January), woahh you with L'amour, and can send dance floors into mayhem with "Mad Dash".  Quite the variety, quite the options.

Winter Music Conference: 10 Acts to Watch: Bingo Players

Take a look at some of the acts Rollingstone thinks you should see soon, if not in Winter Music Conference.  Fortunately, Bostonians don't have to travel all the way to Miami to see some of the Acts.  Porter Robinson and The Bingo Players are all coming to the Area within the week.

By Steve Baltin

(rollingstone.com)  The elite of electronic dance music have been congregating at the Winter Music Conference in Miami for the past 26 years, but this year's festival promises to be the biggest one yet, thanks to the genre's rise in mainstream popularity. The event's climax is the massive three-day Ultra Music Festival, which kicks off on March 23rd and features a lineup of well-established EDM titans, including Tiësto, Kraftwerk, Justice and Avicii, Skrillex and David Guetta. Here are 10 more artists worth checking out:

Bingo Players (coming to Bijou Boston tues March 27)– The Dutch duo has been around since 2006, but they only just hit their stride in the last year with tracks like "Rattle," "When I Dip" and "Cry (Just a Little)," which samples Brenda Russell’s "Piano in the Dark." They're also in-demand remixers, having created notable ones for Flo Rida and Cobra Starship, among others.

Knife Party (We wish they were coming to boston)– Featuring members of the underrated drum and bass band Pendulum, Knife Party are in line to become the next stars of the scene after a SXSW appearance that had audiences clamoring for their techno-leaning dubstep. The duo already has a viral hit with "Internet Friends," on which a robotic female voice issues an absurd warning: "You blocked me on Facebook; now you’re going to die."

Mark Farina – This veteran DJ, who is from San Francisco by way of Chicago, spans several genres including house, acid jazz and downtempo. He'll be playing several gigs throughout the week, but try to catch him at Om Records' event, where he'll share the stage with the also stellar Colette.
Mark Farina

Carl Cox (Out of left field if he comes to Boston)– A revered figure in the dance music scene, Cox has been dazzling crowds for more than two decades with his genre versatility and rising, euphoric crescendoes. Catching Cox in Miami is, in subcultural terms, roughly equivalent to seeing McCartney at Coachella or Springsteen at Bonnaroo.

Porter Robinson (Coming To Nasua NH - March 30)– The 19-year-old North Carolina wunderkind has become one of the fastest rising names in the EDM world for his association with Tiësto, who took Robinson on his College Life tour last year, and Skrillex, who signed him to his OWLSA label. With friends like that, Robinson is essentially on track to headline Ultra in 2013.

Bloody Beetroots –The Beetroots started out as a solo project for Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo, but they've since grown to be an explosive dance-punk act. Rifo wears his punk roots as a badge of honor, to the point of having '1977' tattooed on his chest in honor of the year it broke. He's also become a popular remixer in the rock world, tackling tunes by the likes of Metallica, the Killers and Refused.

Treasure Fingers – While most of the acts at Ultra will be playing dubstep, New Yorker Ashley Jones will proudly hold it down for old-school disco. Best known for the hit "Cross the Dancefloor," Treasure Fingers make the kind of shimmering beats that bridge the gap between today’s EDM and Giorigo Moroder.
Dubfire – Dubfire is the latest alias of Ali Shirazinia, best known for his work as part of Deep Dish. His new project is more hard-edged techno, but Shirazinia remains a proven commodity in the clubs and at festivals.

Datsik (Was in Boston for Deadmeat Tour)– Datsik has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in dubstep, thanks to hits like "Nuke 'Em," "Fire Power" and "Southpaw." He's notched seven chart-toppers on the influential dance site Beatport, but his performance at the Winter Music Conference could determine whether he's ready to step up to the next level.

Little Dragon – This Swedish electro-R&B act fronted by Yukimi Nagano has built a sizable following with critically-acclaimed albums like last year's Ritual Union and collaborations with Gorillaz and DJ Shadow. They'll stand out as one of the few proper bands at the festival and will likely impress audiences on the strength of their grooves.
