Eric Prydz at Prime Boston: A Review

By Mike H:

Going into this show, I wasn't terribly sure what to expect, besides of course a killer performance from progressive house legend Eric Prydz. Although I wasn't all that familiar with Prydz, I knew he had been making some noise with his semi-monthly podcasts, which spotlight songs and artists that the vast majority of the population have never heard of. I also knew that he had recently been offered residency at Wynn nightclub in Las Vegas, where he displays his new show concept, Black Dice: a minimal-lighting, back-to-basics approach to the growing EDM craze. All in all, I couldn't wait to see what Prydz had to offer.

Eric Prydz Announces 'Black Dice'

Forget what you thought you knew about Las Vegas nightlife, Eric Prydz ‘Black Dice’ residency, his first ever in the US, at Wynn Las Vegas is set to usher in an evolution in Sin City’s recent love affair with dance music.

As EDM fervor has swept America, many have lost sight of what the role of a DJ in clubland is all about, settling for pre-prepared playlists of what has become top 40 music. ‘Black Dice’ offers a new paradigm for Las Vegas, paired back production with black-out lighting, fog machines and lasers, musical spontaneity beyond sure-fire club hits; it’s about immersion, and surrendering oneself to a DJs journey.
There is no more capable captain for this journey than Eric Prydz. While he maybe a chart-topping, Grammy nominated producer and a stadium-filling DJ, its clear that his love for the underground and the undiscovered is what drives him. From anthemic hands-in-the-air house as Eric Prydz, to stripped back, dark European techno under his Cirez D alias, Prydz is not one to play safe.

Fortunately you won't have to travel to Vegas to experience Prydz. Get your Eric Prydz Boston Tickets

Eric Prydz at Roseland Ballroom 11-24-12

Pryda is a f*ckin boss. He shredded Roseland pre-thanksgiving to give everyone an evening to give thanks to, which went to a ho hum 4:30am, when staff had to yank him off stage. #whatthissceneissupposetobelike

Prydz Says "It's about just pressing play" read the full story here

The following article was posted in MTV were Eric Prydz make a splashy interview weighing in on "pressing play".  Pryda has an interesting take on the measure but EDMBoston can say with certitude that not all DJs even the talented ones possess as much skill as he in the both.  As a result, him pressing play is a lot different then others

By Akshay Bhansali
(MTV.com) It's one of the hottest topics in the electronic dance music world. As a result of EDM's recent surge in popularity, what exactly it means to DJ has become a much-debated topic.
With deadmau5 confessing that DJs just "press play," A-trak encouraging DJs to challenge themselves and our colleagueJacob at Dancing Astronauts issuing a heartfelt DJ "Call-Out," we recently had a very frank conversation with an electronic music legend, who broke down his thoughts on the art of DJ'ing.
Our good friends at Surrender Nightclub in Las Vegas helped MTV News catch up with Eric Prydz, who just launched into the states in support of is new collection, Eric Prydz Presents PrydaHere's what the legend had to say!
"I think you need to look at what is 'a DJ set' and what is a 'live show,'" Prydz told MTV News. "If you do a live show, everything needs to be...

Eric Prydz Pop Collaboration WON'T happen

(Miami New Times)Before even being given the go-ahead to speak with Eric Prydz, the London-based Swedish DJ-producer, we are told that any questions about his fear of flying are "off the table." This is somewhat disappointing, considering his phobia is well known. It is perhaps what's kept him from delivering a live performance in North America since 2007.

That's why when Identity Festival announced Prydz as this year's headliner, it made for really big news, followed by plenty of skepticism. Would he get on a plane and make the journey from London to the States? Or would he cancel? After all, he's described the ordeal of flying to DJ Mag as "akin to being put in a coffin and buried alive."

Rest assured, though, Prydz is already on U.S. soil, traveling across America with Identity while also promoting his first proper album, Eric Prydz Presents Pryda, a disc of unreleased material that...

Day of Silence. An Eric Prydz Celebration

Today on Friday July 27th EDMBoston will take a Day of Silence for Eric Prydz.  Much like the young lady above, which we captured at the ihome main stage, Pryda left us speechless with his set at Identity Festival in Mansfield.  So much so, that this set, being his first return to the United States in 5 years, should be remembered for a long time to come.

We will have an in-depth review of everything that went down at 2012 Identity Festival next week, like only EDMBoston can deliver!  In addition, we have tons of fan photos from Identity and all the other shenanigans EDMBoston is known for.

I hope everyone had as fun as we did during Pryda's set!

Remember Tomorrowland Festival is being live streamed on Youtube all weekend long!

Identity Festival Recommendations: Who to See ~ An EDMBoston Guide

By Deirdre:

Identity Festival: Who to See

Identity Festival is making its second tour around the country this summer and we know the anxiety that can go hand and hand with music festivals. In this case, the Comcast Center is small enough to move from one stage to the next during or in between sets. Here at EDM Boston, we’ve compiled a small list of DJ’s we think are absolutely necessary to see this Thursday.  Hope you’re all ready to rage Mansfield with us!

1) Excision

If you want loud, in-your-face-bass, do not miss out on seeing Excision. He is known for hitting his crowds hard with “1000 watts of bass”. His sound is unique, and often brings up questions on how he makes it, but none-the-less its great. He often works with dubstep producers Datsik and Downlink. Earlier this year he was on tour with Lucky Date and Liquid Stranger and the reviews from that tour are through the roof. You do not want to miss your chance to check out him out. He plays at the Rockstar Energy Drink Festival Stage at 7:15.

Pryda – Agag [Virgin]

As primiered on Pete Tongs Radio 1 show, the essential mix last friday.  'Agag' by Pryda is a classic  house track free of massive drops and surging synths.  This production by Eric Prydz, is a great step away from the Big Room tracks being released one after the other. Prydz composed a deep track that reveals house's sexier side in Agag.  Take a listen and enjoy its deep journey.

Just think Eric Prydz was originally one of the members of Swedish House Mafia until he decided to take a different course.  We are glad he made that decision because we get the enjoyment of both groups producing new material!

M83 – Midnight City (Eric Prydz Remix) [RELEASED]

We try not to use the term fire, banger, etc daily on the blog but sometimes its near impossible when we're living in what could be known as the Golden Age of House Music.

Eric Prydz has serviced up a FIRE remix of "Midnight City"  This track takes on an emotional rollercoaster of progressive house sensory overload.  Prydz says that the track was intended as on unofficial remix to be used during live shows.  However, it was met with such fan favoritism that he had no choice but to go official with his remix of Midnight CIty.  The Swede, Eric Prydz, takes this minimal BPM track from a mere 20 BPM, on the original, up to something more satisfying on the dance floor and Prydz nailed it!
