Zedd 'Spectrum' Music Video Released

The track that has taken the progressive scene by storm during the month of July has finally seen its music video released!

"I wanted the video to capture the ever-changing energy and emotion of the song through real human feelings," Zedd tells Rolling Stone. "It takes you on a journey through love, loss, contentment and anxiety. Musically, the chord progression I wrote captured the feeling and tension, unpredictability and the unknown. The video portrays this through a relationship between a man (human) and woman (alien) and the dynamics/excitement between the two of them."

Zedd's Album Clarity Release Date Announced

(RedOrbit) Russian-born German-raised EDM producer/DJ/songwriter, Zedd, is set to release his full-length debut album, Clarity, on October 9th via Interscope Records. The album will include the wildly popular track “Spectrum” Feat. Matthew Koma, which was #1 on Beatport for 18 days and rocketed into the top 10 on the iTunes dance chart. The album was recorded over an 8-month period from January through August 2012, and features collaborations with Ellie Goulding, Ryan Tedder and Foxes.

Having already toured with Lady Gaga on her “Born This Way Ball’ tour, Skrillex and Deadmau5 among others, Zedd will join fellow artist and friend, Porter Robinson for their Poseidon Tour this fall. The Poseidon Tour features both Zedd and Porter playing back-to-back tracks, alternating throughout the night. Full dates and info below. Says Zedd, “I am psyched to be playing the B2B shows with Porter on the Poseidon Tour. Playing with a great artist and friend allows us to...

deaf man who heard music for the first time two weeks ago

(Yahoo!) Austin Chapman says he was "born profoundly deaf" and has never understood music--or the people moved by it. But that changed two weeks ago, when he tried a new pair of hearing aids for the first time in years.
"[It] was the hardest thing for me to wrap my head around," Chapman, a 23-year-old filmmaker, wrote in a post on his studio's blog. "All music sounded like trash through my hearing aids."
He described what it was like to hear clearly for the first time:
I sat in the doctor's office frozen as a cacophony of sounds attacked me. The whir of the computer, the hum of the AC, the clacking of the keyboard, and when my best friend walked in I couldn't believe that he had a slight rasp to his voice.
Chapman, a recent Pepperdine graduate, posted his story on Reddit, asking for suggestions of what songs he should listen to next. Since then, he's been inundated with responses recommending everything from AC/DC to Vampire Weekend.
Yahoo News caught up with Chapman via email to find out more about his honed hearing--and the feedback his story's generated.
Yahoo: This is not some sort of elaborate viral marketing stunt for hearing aids, is it?
Chapman: Haha. No. I was worried it might come off that way so in my original post I didn't list the name or brand of my...

Live Nation Looks to Cash In on EDM

(Phoenix new times) About 345,000 electronic dance music fans packed June's Electric Daisy Carnival festival in Las Vegas, 100,000 more than attended last year.
It's an impressive figure, to be sure, dwarfed only by an even bigger number: the millions of disappointed souls who didn't go, forced to be content with merely listening to audio streams, reading blog coverage, or jealously sifting through hundreds of thousands of gleeful tweets from those in attendance.
It's these same disappointed electronica fans who the folks at Live Nation are hoping will snatch up tickets to Identity Festival, a touring EDM extravaganza that will hit 15 cities nationwide, including Phoenix on Sunday, August 19, at Ashley Furniture HomeStore Pavilion.
If it hasn't been made abundantly clear by the genre's strong and steady representation at big-name festivals like Lollapalooza and Coachella, let's state it outright: EDM is big, big business. And it's only looking to get...

Showtek Crazy Collaborations Reign Supreme

There must be something in the water over in the Netherlands.  Showtek, like many other Dutch phenoms including Tiesto, Marcel Woods and Hardwell are all rising to the top of the EDM charts and it sure isn’t lonely up there.  Showtek consists of two brothers; Sjoerd and Wouter Janssen and they started producing music in 2001.  Since, Showtek has been on the leading edge of producing hard, edgy dance tracks and their new project entitled Crazy Collabs definitely lives up to its name. Crazy Collabs presents a series of collaborations by Showtek and various producers from all different types of genres going beyond putting music under a specific label or category. Their first Crazy Collab with TiĆ«sto “Hell Yeah!” rose to the top of the Beatport Top 10 charts and has been heard in DJ sets around the world since.

Showtek’s second Crazy Collaboration with Hardwell has also dominated the charts since its release.  Entitled “How We Do,” the track is filled with Hardwell’s heartfealt synths and Showtek’s raw chords throughout which make for one ultimate dance anthem. Showtek has a bunch of other collaborations lined up including Bassjackers, Noisecontrollers and have been in talks with OWSLA, Skrillex’s label.  Crazy Collabs is all about expanding the boundaries and going outside the box.  From these collaborations one can see Showtek’s passion and hopefully more producers follow suit.

Matt Nash, Dave Silcox & Tom Peppe - Hearts (Jordy Dazz Remix)

Matt Nash, Dave Silcox & Tom Peppe - Hearts (Jordy Dazz Remix)

By Mike B of Butlertron

This big room house remix from Jordy Dazz is all shimmering anthems and growly bass. Numerous arrangements of the theme, using tones of a piano to hints of guitar to a huge gated trance lead, keep it intensely interesting from the start. The focus shifts from the bass to a dutch lead at just the right time. And the beat drives the song forward, with the subtle wood block rhythm from the intro returning before the breakdown. After a short relief, the second drop's rising basslines hit even harder.
