Paul Van Dyk Doesn't Like Danceable Pop Music

Deadmau5 is grumpy
(Globe and Mail) Electronic dance music – or EDM, that exuberant, propulsive, still-new genre that’s grown so big it now gives pop music its cues – needs a charismatic poster boy. Instead, it has the polarizing Joel Zimmerman, the man better known as deadmau5.
For one camp, the Toronto-based producer is a virtuoso, winning audiences over with his panoply of bass, warm synths and electronic trinkets. For the other, he’s bellicose, self-righteous and staid. But whether they love him or hate him, fans of EDM are showing up. Earlier this month, more than 20,000 people stayed put through a thunderstorm to see Zimmerman headline Toronto’s Veld music festival, one of the world’s biggest EDM gatherings.
The man under the iconic mouse headpiece is more resentful than anything of his abrupt stardom – the Grammy nominations, the Rolling Stone cover, being named sixth on Forbes’s first “Electronic Cash Kings” list of the world’s top-paid DJs. “I wouldn’t be famous in an ideal world,” he said in his trailer before his Veld set. “Everyone would be … happy doing their own … thing.” For all his rising fame, Zimmerman says he just wants to produce music – to do his own thing. Deadmau5 is grumpy.
Unsurprisingly, he’s also tired. The day after this interview, Zimmerman took to Tumblr and wrote he is “pretty miserable,” saying he planned to “unplug for a wee bit.”
Before that admission, Zimmerman sat down with The Globe and Mail to talk about stardom, EDM’s future and the biggest career killer of all.

Ultra Music and Ultra Music Festival Join Forces
(MusicWeek) Ultra Music and Ultra Music Festival (UMF) are joining forces to link Ultra Music artists like Deadmau5, Steve Aoki and Calvin Harris with the EDM event giant.
Ultra Music is made up of a record label, publishing house, management company and media platform in one, with an artist roster that includes Pitbull and Calvin Harris.
UMF - the original Miami EDM festival – now hosts six events internationally: this month's inaugural UMF Korea, the country's biggest EDM event with over 60,000 attendees and UMF Chile, which was just announced this week.

Avicii Fall Tour Announcement
As you will note Avicii is not schedule to be playing in Boston but Additional tour dates will be added which we believe will be a nightclub performance and would occur on September 8-10.
Avicii's fall tour performance at Radio City Music Hall will make him the first DJ to play the venue.
Avicii will also be visiting college campuses of Temple, Johns Hopkins, and Cornell Universities on the fall tour.

David Guetta Responds to Getting Caught Fake DJing
Yesterday EDMBoston reported an article that accused David Guetta Caught Faking his DJ set at Tomorrowland. We were suspicious as to what actually happened because in various spots in the video you can see the mixer levels both up and down. A lot of people and websites jumped the gun and quickly cried David Guettas a fraud. But not so fast!
David Guetta's camp has broken it's silence and his rep, Sander Landsaat, has responded on a story from Mixmag. “This is total bullshit,” Landsaat’s response begins. “David played every track and mixed them on the spot LIVE! Why would I say this? I was in the DJ booth with him. [I’m] saying this just to illustrate that I was witness."
“The reason why all faders were down as claimed is because there was a power outage and a moment of silence for a good 10 mins if I remember correctly, could have even been longer. If this happens and the power comes back on you don’t want the music to start playing again where it left off or at a later point in the track abruptly, because that would also create ammo for all those critics and negative people out there. This is a question of editing out the moment of silence out of the video footage, nothing else.”
Seeing as EDMBoston wasn't at Tomorrowlands we can't validate the power outage. However, it seems like a pretty legitimate reason.
