Carl Cox School Of DJing

The out spoken Carl Cox wrote the following editorial on Inthemix about his school/thought on DJing and it's an extrodinary read into the mind of a living DJ legend.

By Carl Cox

PLAYING IT FIRST

To be involved in this for so long, there has to be a reason. My reason hasn’t been about chasing money, having a record go to number one on radio or being the most popular DJ in the world. All I did was basically believe in what I do and the music I play. I do everything because I feel compelled; whether the music I’m playing is popular or not. That’s still how it is today for me. I just hear a record and think, “Right, I really want to share this track and I want people to understand that I love this music.” So I’ll play it based on that principle.
Two years ago, this track came out by Joe Brunning called Now Let Me See You Work. No one had heard it before at all, and I remember playing it for the first time at Ultra Music Festival in Miami. The whole place was going crazy to a track they’d never heard before. And that for me...

Above & beyond Launch Group Therapy Radio Show

Above & Beyond have been making big waves over the last 4 days. On friday they surprised everyone on their weekly broadcast of Trance Around The World, that the upcoming 450th episode would be their last. They gave no indication of what would happen and it left people shocked.

However, this week the trio calmed its fans and announced that their radio show would go on, but be rebranded as Group Therapy Radio starting November 10. Group Therapy clearly can't be slowed down and this only proves such. Above & Beyond went on to say:

“Group Therapy describes the relationship between us, our music and our audience and the magic that happens when they interact. Our radio show is our biggest weekly interaction with our fans…. It is global Group Therapy.”
 - Above & Beyond

We can say with conviction that the concept of Group Therapy has struck a chord with us and our experience of it at Electric Zoo was second to no show we've seen this year.

The switchover to Group Therapy will be triggered when Above & Beyond take to the stage during their 450th TATW broadcast, which is coming from Jayamahal Palace in Bangalore, India on November 10. Broadcast live globally, the TATW450/ABGT001 show will be a six hour event also featuring fellow Anjunabeats artists Mat Zo, Andrew Bayer, Norin & Rad, and Jody Wisternoff.

From Friday November 16, the Group Therapy radio show will occupy Above & Beyond’s regular weekly radio slot of 7pm - 9pm BST (2pm - 4pm EST) and will keep the same format as their current TATW show, featuring two hours of the finest trance and progressive, providing a snapshot of Above & Beyond, Anjunabeats and the electronic scene at large today.

You can tune into the live broadcast of TATW450 and ABGT001 from Bangalore, India at www.aboveandbeyond.nu/radio, at the following times.

Eastern Standard Time (EST) 5:30am -11:30am

DAVID GUETTA: NEVER-BEFORE TOLD STORY

Article from Vibe.com

(Vibe.com) BEFORE THE PRIVATE JET AND HIGH BPMS, DAVID GUETTA SURROUNDED HIMSELF WITH HIP-HOP AND SOUL MUSIC. CAN THE DANCE DJ SPIN THE FATE OF R&B?

It’s hard to tell where the crowd’s flickering lighters meet the beaming LED screens strung around Randall’s Island like Christmas trees on steroids. The sun has set on the former juvenile delinquent reform school site as David Guetta steps onto the main stage for his performance at New York’s enormous electronic music event, Electric Zoo. The 35,000 dance music devotees look like a sea of neon-clad ants from up here. One thing is clear: The scene is definitely a zoo, and the 44-year-old Frenchman is its ringleader.

The show has begun. Spasmodic lights begin to flash and flicker while Star Trek-esque synths pump from the speakers. Guetta drops the opening chords of...

Diplo & Psy Collaboration to Happen?

diplo psy collaboration

Have Diplo and Psy just joined forces?

The record label boss behind Madd Decent and co-member of Major Lazer, surprised us when he dropped the above photo on his instagram/twitter.  They are clearly in a studio and one can only imagine what wacky beats the creative Diplo could have produced for Psy.  Or is this just a hoax to spread Psy mania to another fan base?

Ironically enough this wouldn't be the first time Diplo dabbled in the K-pop genre.  It wasn't long ago that he worked with GD & TOP on their track "Knock Out".

Only time will tell if this is new Diplo & Psy collaboration will come to fruition.
