Decriminalize Drugs? Scientists Says Yes in the UK

By Max:

If anyone has met me or partied with me at a show, you know me to be a pretty adamant anti-drug advocate that believes people should do as they choose as long as it doesn't effect others.  It' a personal opinion and I don't push it on anyone nor the readers of EDMBoston.  At almost every show I'm usually 100% sober because I'm reporting on artists and need to be astute.  More then that I don't need anything to help me enjoy the music.

That being said, I find the mixmag post from The Guardian interesting because I think raves are case in point.  We all know of the vast drugs at shows and by and large there's very rarely incidents, unless its an 18+ show.  The UK Drug Policy Commission has finally found evidence that supports possession of small amounts of drugs.  Read on for yourselves to hear the conclusion

(MixMag) A six-year study carried out by leading British scientists, academics and police officers has concluded that illegal drugs should be decriminalised in the UK, according to The Guardian.

The report was carried out by the independent advisory body, the UK Drug Policy Commission (UKDPC) and suggested that possession of small amounts of controlled drugs should no longer be considered a criminal offence but rather treated as a civil offence.

UK AND USA MATCH IN ECSTASY USE

(mixmag) - In last year's Mixmag Drug Survey, we compared the use of drugs in the UK to the USA, and found that both countries differ substantially, apart from the use of ecstasy.
Significantly larger proportions of respondents in the USA had used all forms of cannabis (including spice and other synthetic cannabinoids), hallucinogens (including LSD and magic mushrooms) and Ritalin. Only 19% of UK respondents had smoked cannabis (resin) in the last month, in comparison to 41% in the USA.
Although cannabis was more popular in the USA, significantly higher proportions in the UK reported recent use of almost every other drug investigated excluding ecstasy. Ecstasy is the only drug that respondents in the USA and the UK are taking the exact same amount of, with 41% taking ecstasy in the last month in both countries.
This year's Mixmag Drug Survey finishes tomorrow, Wednesday December 21. It is the largest survey of its kind and aims to give a clear picture of recreational drug use around the world. If you wish to take the survey click here. You can also check the full results from last year's drug survey here.

Aoki Like A Boss

Recently, Mixmag caught up with Steve Aoki.  As a result, we were blessed with a mix session featuring his latest track earthquakey people.  It's a different sound for Aoki with pop vocals over a top 40 house beat but still brings the house down for him.  There has been much acclaim surrounding DJs and calling them the new rockstars.  Aoki is one of the few that can really be called a Rockstar.

Happy Halloween Foockers!

Introducing Moombahton

MixMag         Every scene needs its Mecca, and for moombahton it's the U Street Music Hall in Washington DC, home to the epic, unhinged, raucous and near-Dionysian Moombahton Massive parties, where low-slung Latin beats and Dutch house & electronica meet in a sweat-soaked party utopia, and this week's Massive on Wednesday October 26 sees turntablist legend DJ Craze joining DJ Sabo, Tittsworth, Billy The Gent, Obeyah and Cam Jus in what promises to be one of the biggest yet.
What about the poor schmucks not even on the same continent? They've got it covered. For each party, Sabo compiles an EP of brand new heaters from the scene's biggest DJs and producers. These drops set a high tide mark for quality, and MM6 is no exception, with the likes of Sabo, Jon Kwest, DJ Ayres, Sazon Booya, A-Mac and Pickster One exploring the breadth and scope of the sound, from balaeric fiesta vibes to tougher Dirty Dutch tweaking via trip hop repurposing. And the best thing? It's free and exclusive to Mixmag.

Moombahton is one of the newer types of EDM that blends latin beats & dutch house. Its most definitely what you'll find all the latin ladies shaken there money makers to. Cop some of the free tracks on mix mags site now.
