Diplo is Working With Beyonce!

diplo beyonce

Diplo is constantly keeping himself busy working on many projects. So much so, that any time he spends outside of performing at nightclubs, he is locked up in the studio working on collaborations and original works.  The "Original Don" has returned to assisting the pop community and has been recently lending a hand to Beyonce. Busy preparing for her upcoming Mrs. Carter tour, is in the mist of wrapping up her new album, Fifth Long Player.

In a recent interview with NME, Diplo revealed, “I'm in the middle of something for her at the moment.”

The question is- what on earth could Diplo be producing for Beyonce's pop audience? We think that the influence of EDM is extending into pop even further than Pitbull and Will.i.am tracks. EDM producers could very well be the future beat-makers for pop artists as we know it.

I'm bored out of my fucking mind ~Diplo

(Huffingtonpost)At the end of a Saturday interview with Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire of Major Lazer during the second weekend of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, I mentioned my upcoming conversation with 2 Chainz, scheduled for later in afternoon.
Diplo's eyes lit up: "Tell him to come on stage and perform with us."
In 2 Chainz' smoke-filled tour bus about an hour later, I casually brought up Diplo's request. The interview, which was slowly wrapping up, ended abruptly: 2 Chainz took out his phone and immediately called Diplo. When the call went to voicemail, 2 Chainz asked me to reach out to my contact in Diplo's camp. I did, and eventually Diplo's people spoke to 2 Chainz people -- all while a freshly baked Chainz frantically listened to "Bubblebutt" and tried to re-memorize his lines.
Thirty minutes later, Jillionaire and Diplo were telling a crowd of rabid festival goers that they had a special guest: 2 Chainz, who came out, plowed through his verse with trademark swagger, and promptly left the stage.
Sometimes even when Diplo doesn't call you, you answer anyway.
As the head of Mad Decent, an independent record label that recently notched a Billboard No. 1 in the form of Baauer's "Harlem Shake," Diplo has found himself...

Diplo, DJ BL3ND Fued: Buying Fame - The Complete Story

By Kyle:

As the EDM world grows more and more by the day, artists are finding different ways to make their music known, and become popular on social media.  However, last week, an up and coming artist by the name of DJ Bl3nd made a bold move in order to gain fame.  BL3ND’s actions offended several well known artists, including Diplo and Deadmau5.

Overnight, the amount of likes for this “DJ” skyrocketed to over 3,000,000.  That is more Facebook likes that Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, Above and Beyond, and Diplo all put together.  Seems a little fishy doesn't it?

This is not the first time DJ Bl3nd has been accused of this either.  With several million views on his youtube “mixes,” yet nowhere near as many fans, people and artists across the communtity are understandably upset.

dj bl3nd buys facebook likes Last week, well known artist, Diplo, took this annoyance to another level and called DJ Bl3nd out.  At the IMS Engage Social Media Panel, Diplo made comments referring to the purchase of Facebook likes by DJ Bl3nds management.  These comments were not taken lightly and resulted in Steven Haddad, DJ Bl3nd’s manager, screaming from the audience.  This retaliation by the DJ Bl3nd management then angered Diplo’s manager, Kevis Kusatsu, who forcefully told Haddad to shut up.  At the conclusion of the panel, the heated argument escalated leading to a brawl between management staff, pictured below.

The fued between Bl3nd and Diplo spilled over to Twitter after the event, with other artists such as Deadmau5 chiming in.

Deadmau5 text to Diplo:
deadmau5 Bl3nd facebook likes

DJ Bl3nd funny response:
DJ Bl3nd Likes

This alleged purchase of Facebook likes angers me as an EDM fan.  However, without forensic analytics we don't know if Bl3nd is truly purchasing likes or simply dominating the social media game.  Nevertheless, if he or other artists are purchasing "Likes" it is unfair to artists who have worked hard for years to acieve the fans that they have today. Don’t buy your fame to get your name out there.

Diplo has since apologized for his actions, but DJ Bl3ND is sticking to his guns and claiming that he has never purchased Facebook likes.  DJ Bl3ND's fan-base  known as "Blenders" strongly back BL3ND up, claiming that he is becoming one of the BEST in the business   Either way, 3,000,000 likes overnight, raises some eyebrows, for both praise and questioning.

What do you think - Is Bl3nd purchasing Likes on Facebook?

Diplo working on EDM movie!

diplo movie
EDM artist Diplo has confirmed that he is in works with 20th Century Fox on a EDM themed movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Diplo describes the film as a mix between "8 Mile" and "Project X" that follows three young people on their way to a Diplo concert.

Diplo's business partner Kevin Kusatsu described it hilariously as a story where "Eminem and Christopher Walken party at a Manchester rave."

No word yet on when the Diplo movie will start production, but with big name movies starting production in Boston this year, including the second Hunger Games, there could be a chance the film would be set in Boston! With the rise in great venues and show schedules, coupled with the amazing youth culture that comes from such a college heavy city, Boston would be the best locale for an EDM adventure movie, outside of california. Just imagine, three college students running around the streets of Allston trying to find a party to pregame, running to catch the last T to Royale, and looking for food at 4 A.M. only to realize that even the McDonald's are closed!

Here's to hoping that Diplo and his writers, Adam Weinstock and Andy Jones, think of Boston when things get rolling for Diplo Movie.

In the meantime, create your own epic EDM concert adventure stories at any of the upcoming shows on our Calendar of Events.

How Diplo's #ExpressYourself Campaign Took on Life of Its Own

(BillboardAsk any Diplo or Major Lazer fan what comes to mind when you say "Express Yourself" and chances are they'll say something along the lines of "make it clap."

For anyone wondering what that means, let's take a look at how a social-media campaign took on a life of its own, starting way back in June with a blog post and a single.

From there, the campaign took off: Diplo's management reports that from late July through the end of August, over 31,000 Tweets included the #ExpressYourself hashtag. Four months later, in December, more than 10,000 Tweets #ExpressYourself Tweets have been sent.

What's surprising about that? The campaign ended in late June.

During the contest, Diplo got into the action and RT'd many of the entries. The Mad Decent blog served as the digital archive for all entries received during the contest period.

Mad Decent announced the winners on June 23, again on their blog, noting that Diplo "couldn't pick just one winner so instead has selected 1 grand prize winner plus 5 additional winners, all receiving the coveted Diplo/MajorLazer guestlist for life!"

But the story didn't end there.

The best thing about Diplo's #ExpressYourself campaign is the way it continued after the campaign had officially ended. What made it so successful?

It was authentic. A key to a good social media campaign is authenticity. This campaign was a key part of the song and video, and turned that into the mechanism to enter the contest. And the dance style featured in the video was already an existing dance style.

It embraced fans' passionMusic fans are PASSIONATE. If you need an example, check any of the hashtags on Twitter related to major artists for proof - #Barbz (Nicki Minaj), #KatyCats (Katy Perry) or even #MJFam (Michael Jackson). Diplo and his team embraced their fan's passion - another winning element.

It was sexy. The dance is anything but subtle!

Participation was rewarded. Everyone loves a pat on the back every now and then, even if that's in the form of a RT. By involving Diplo and the Mad Decent blog in the campaign, participants all received digital "pats on the back" via RT's and blog posts for their submissions, creating an inclusive sense of community and rewarding all, not just the contest winners.

Out November 27th, Dance (RED), Save Lives will also feature Tiesto's recent collaboration with Bono on a remake of U2's "Pride."
"When I went to Africa in 2006, I was struck by the devastating effect of AIDS," said Tiesto in a statement. "Now the world has an incredible chance to make sure that babies are born HIV-free by 2015, and the dance community is going to make a lot of noise to help make this happen."
The album will be accompanied by a YouTube livestream of sets from Tiesto and other Dance (Red) artists during Melbourne's Stereosonic Festival, which will be staged during World AIDS Day weekend on December 1st and 2nd.

Diplo & Psy Collaboration to Happen?

diplo psy collaboration

Have Diplo and Psy just joined forces?

The record label boss behind Madd Decent and co-member of Major Lazer, surprised us when he dropped the above photo on his instagram/twitter.  They are clearly in a studio and one can only imagine what wacky beats the creative Diplo could have produced for Psy.  Or is this just a hoax to spread Psy mania to another fan base?

Ironically enough this wouldn't be the first time Diplo dabbled in the K-pop genre.  It wasn't long ago that he worked with GD & TOP on their track "Knock Out".

Only time will tell if this is new Diplo & Psy collaboration will come to fruition.

Wakey Bakey - Diplo Got Stoned & Mixed Really Old Records For Half Hour

Diplo laid dropped a unusual mix yesterday on his soundcloud titled “Got Stoned And Mixed Really Old Records For Half An Hour”. And that my friends is exactly what the superproducer did.  He took a random sampling of classic material from the 60’s and 70’s and made a "dope" mix.

Should this really be any surprise considering how many different genres he produces in.

Trapstyle || Sweet Nothing (Diplo Trapstyle Remix) - Calvin Harris ft. Florence Welch

Sweet Nothing has received notable remixes from Tiesto and dirtyloud, which ment only one thing. There would be a trapstyle reincarnation by someone at somepoint. That someone is non other then our favorite label boss Diplo, and his notorious trapstyling. The remix maintains the passion of Florence's voice while offering a modified trap drop for all of us to lose our minds to on the dancefloor.

With that said, we offer the question what doesn't diplo have his hands on?  Hopefully we will be able to pose that question when he is in Boston this friday.

For now trapstyle "Sweet Nothing"

Diplo's New Project Releases Music Video

Earlier this week, Diplo dropped a preview of a track off his new project called "About that Life".  The song features vocals from Jahan Lennon.  The internet was ablaze with bewilderment as to what diplo was up to. Nevertheless, we kept our calm because he is one of the most creative minds in the music industry.  Over the last year, Diplo has engrossed himself in multiple genre's that would make any other artists head spin.  Instead it inspired him and gave birth to something new.  He's been at the forefront of Moombahton, Trap, and Pop music.  With his recent escapade with Snoop Lion into Reggae, it's no surprise that Diplo's new track "About that Life" dabbles in something new.  The southern gospel psychedelics is out there, but it follows suite in Armin Van Buuren's classic saying "Don't be a prisoner of your own style".  In addition to "About that Life" the solo album will also feature Diplo's explosive "Express Yourself"

MAJOR LAZER ALBUM RELEASE DELAYED

We've been chatting about him for the last two weeks, after watching him live at Electric Zoo.  EDMBoston can't get enough of his unique trap, wobbly, dancehall, experimental sound and now it looks like we will have to wait that much longer to hear Diplo's new Album entitled " Free The Universe' under his Major Lazer alter-ego.

The Major Lazer Album Release is Delayed until February 2013.  The reason: Diplo has been to busy touring to finish it.  We believe the mega producer has been busy with other projects and touring.  If you've followed the headlines he has had his hands in so many projects over the last month it would make most artist blush.  Think about what he has been up to: producing for Snoop Lion just to name one.  He also has his label to manage and weekly radio show on BBC.  This leaves little time for him to focus on his own work.

The new album is set to feature collaborations with Erza Koenig from Vampire Weekend, Shaggy, Flux Pavillion, Dev and Bruno Mars.

We hope he finds the time to take a breather and then finish the album.

Diplo helped Snoop to make 'adult' record

(irishexaminer) Snoop Dogg chose Diplo to produce his reggae album as he is his only friend who knows the genre.

The rapper - rebranding himself as Snoop Lion for the project - wanted to make a more "adult" record, and called on Diplo after being impressed with his work.

Speaking at the launch of Red Bull Culture Clash, Diplo told BANG Showbiz: "He hit me up, I was like the only person he knew that knew anything about reggae, and so we just met a couple of times and it became a really good idea to do this.

"We worked before on his last album, and he said, he wanted to do something that's a bit more adult."

Diplo said Snoop got excited after he played him a song by his dancehall project Major Lazer, which convinced him to adopt a reggae sound.

He added: "We played him 'Get Free' which, at the time, we had just finished, and he loved the way it sounded and wanted to do something like that. We were both on that proper reggae vibe, and we just went down it."

The producer eventually went to Jamaica with Snoop to finish recording the album, to make it as authentic as possible.

He said: "We went to Jamaica to track the vocals, and we needed instruments that we couldn't do that well in America. "When we work on a record that is that big we do a lot of pre-production, we're getting ready to go to Jamaica and make every second of being there count."

DIPLO'S VIBE Magazine COVER STORY: THE MIDDLE MAN

Vibe Magazine gets up close and personal with Diplo Vibe Magazine Cover Story. Diplo spills the beans on DJing and why he thinks it isn't so cool and what he's been up to in his busy life.

(Vibe.com) DIPLO SITS IN a studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, tinkering a beat he’s worked on for months. He takes it from 134 beats per minute down to 128. It still doesn’t sound right. “My ears are so fucked to this. Let’s see what it sounds like at 130,” he says to a young producer from Europe assisting him today. The Dutch rapper who introduced them loafs on a couch nearby. “Polska, whatever his name is,” Diplo later tells me, “is like the A$AP Rocky of Holland.”

The track initially resembled a “house record” but turned into a “trap record” after Diplo slowed it down and added some bass. Complicating matters is that the song features Pharrell. “I’m trying to negotiate what Pharrell wants for the record,” he says. “Pharrell loved the demo, but the demo is so monotone for me. It’s just a mixtape cut [now,] but it can be bigger than that because the hook is so good.”

Diplo wears a maroon T-shirt, mustard-colored skinny jeans and sleek gray high-top Puma sneakers, looking every bit like the cool-kid DJ he’s been for nearly a decade. But since producing singles for Usher, Chris Brown, Wale, and BeyoncĂ©, he’s evolved into a new role—rap and R&B’s latest hitmaker for hire. It’s a welcome transition for Diplo. Spinning records has brought him the residency in Vegas, the BlackBerry sponsorship and the big-money corporate gigs—“Sometimes I make more money in a weekend than my grandpa made in a year”—but he doesn’t think DJing is a special talent or challenging or… “Being a DJ is pretty bullshit,” he says. “I’m lucky I can...

Look At Where We Are (Major Lazer Remix) - Hot Chip

Major Lazer's newest remix dabbles in Hot Chip's "Look at where we are".  This track groove's with beats reminiscent of hip-hop yet are from the new wave trap subgenre that Diplo has fully immersed himself in.

Great summer chill track.

PS How dirty would some Bob Marley vocals be over this?
