UZ. The masked king of
trap. Between hiding behind a mask, and
writing tweets in code, this EDM rising star has fans across the community
scratching their heads to uncover the identity.
UZ specializes in ball-trap music,
giving a massive hip-hop feel to his tunes.
He manages to slow down the tempo, while still making the crowd go nuts.
UZ blew up over this passed summer after releasing his Trap Shit EP in June through the Mad Decent
label. The
massive release caused UZ’s
trap bangers to be thrown around at festivals all
summer. His distinct sound could be
heard echoing from Electric Forest all the way to Camp Bisco as fans started to
take an interest in this unknown, mysterious, masked artist.
Since
the release of Trap Shit,
UZ has continued to produce and release numerous trap
anthems, causing me to view him as one of the fastest rising stars in the EDM
community. But one question still
remains unanswered. Who is the man
behind the eerie mask on stage?
Speculations and accusations have been thrown about the EDM community
with numerous artists, ranging from Kill the Noise to AC Slater, claiming to be
the real
UZ. Artists such as RL Grime,
Baauer, Diplo, and Flosstradamus frequently feature UZ, and have played a major
part in the rise of the masked performer. One artist in particular, Diplo, seems to have a special
appreciation for UZ, causing some fans to question whether Diplo is the
culprit. Diplo released several
statements talking about UZ up to the release of Trap Shit, describing the
music as “drunken energy sub bass and cartoon horn stabs that make my stomach
feel weird and my feet shuffle.”
While
Diplo could be UZ, one artist in particular, DJ Troubl, has drawn much attention in the discussion of who's
behind the mask. French producer DJ Troubl mysteriously stopped updating his
Facebook last June, right around the time of UZ’s first EP release. At the time, fans thought nothing of it, but
as the months pressed on, more and more evidence is pointing towards DJ Troubl
being UZ. Recently, a fan posted on UZ’s
Facebook wall stating that he knew that UZ and DJ Troubl were the same, this
post received numerous likes and then was conveniently deleted by UZ a few
minutes later. Adding to the skepticism,
DJ Troubl and UZ both use the same exact mixing equipment while performing
live, and allegedly have the same color arm hair. Although this seems to show that DJ Troubl is
in fact the mysterious artist on stage, still to this day nothing has been
confirmed. UZ recently tweeted that the
big reveal is coming soon, but until then fans must continue to pick their
brains trying to unmask the bass god.
Although the
true identity of UZ remains unknown, one thing is for sure. Whoever is hiding behind that mask sure knows
how to make it bump.
