Swedish House Mafia Break Up Details From Radio1 Interview [AUDIO]

Last week Swedish House Mafia dropped a bomb on the edm community and announced Swedish House Mafia Break Up was happening.  The single post on their website read, "This will be our last tour"  No other details were provided.  It left the world asking, "Why would Swedish House Mafia break up when they convincingly dominate the explosion of edm and all the newcomers to the scene?"

Well Pete Tong has finally got the answer we've been waiting for, all last week, regarding the Swedish House Mafia Break Up Details.

Pete tong asked Steve Angello right off the bat, "clarify what are you guys doing?".  To which Steve Angllo responded with Break Up Details,
"We didn't go out with a big press release...i think we just decided to call it a day. we had such an amazing run. IT JUST FEELS RIGHT. we are gonna go out with a bang".

And that we can truely agree with. The Swedish House Mafia will play out their last ever UK show at the Milton Keynes Bowl to 60,000 people.

Steve followed up, "It's been an amazing journey we did as friends".

It was extremely fun to watch, as we were graced with "one" and the magic moments captured in the documentary "take one".

Steve, Axwell, and Sebsatian Ingrosso talked further with Pete in the 12 minute interview.  When Pete asked axwell, "Why did you wait till now? Was there a falling out?" Axwell responded emphatically "NO. i know what you mean, its easy to stay content with the machine of SHM [but] we've always been about challenging ourselves and doing unexpected things... [we want to] follow our creativity and we just felt we taken it as far or beyond as far as we thought we could go with it. Felt it was time we do something different now."

With the aforementioned statement, listeners knew this was the final nail in the coffin, at least for now.  While speculation, surrounds the group about a reunion tour its hard to think one will exist when Axwell goes on the record with a comment like that.

As for why the super trio decided to make the announcement now. "[We] wanted people coming to shows knowing it was last time they see us."

Now the Swedish House Mafia break up details announced on their website that they would announce a final leg of their tour.  Pete asked SHM "what can we expect from that?"  Axwell said "we are not sure or how big it'll be."  Seb "we are trying to digest what we've done to ourselves. be great to go around the world and say goodbye."  Seb followed up when asked about how he felt about posting up the message on the website, "scary actually".

Pete wanted to know "does this have to do with whats going on in dance music or as they call it in the US, edm, as they call it?" Steve "i dont think so...nobody to blame or point fingers. its a good time for dance music. i dont think it hurts anyone that dance music is big. i think beneficial for everyone."

When Steve was questioned on, "the shows keep geting bigger?" Steve had something interesting to say.  "I think they can go bigger but at the same time i think messier. I think production has always been key factor, not about showing off. We have to please ourselves. We've worked so many years and haven't made money because we put so much into the production. Of course it can get bigger but, too big isn't good...because it gets messy. gotta worry about quality."

With that said their impending show at Milton Keynes is going to be pretty massive.  60,000 people massive.  Pete Tong wanted to know, "what's [the] ambition for milton keys?"  "To properly say goodbye because support from day one has been amazing...To give them the best swedish house mafia can be" said Axwell.

Should we expect an album.  It appears not.  But Sebastian Ingrosso promised us a farewell single.  Whether we get tracks in the future, it is unknown.  When Tong asked Ingrosso "you must have music in the can?"  Seb revealed that, "we have. we have. we have 28 unfinished demos".  As for seeing a second edition of "Take One" it is really up in the air.  Angello commented that Christian, the producer of the first movie has been on tour with them, but it maybe just for family or a movie.

After this tour, Swedish House Mafia will not have its three members play together in a set or be on stage as one.  However, we maybe graced with 2 of the members in the future.  However, when Axwell commented on it, it sounded like anything was possible to happen.  EDMBoston can totally see an impromtu show happening in a late night hours session or such.

As for seeing the group unite Seb had this to say "to be continued you never know. [we're gonna] digest right now and work on things we need to do."
