(Examiner) When the sun rises on Friday, it will shine upon the festival grounds of Randall’s Island, New York – a little island in the East River that has played host to Cirque Du Soleil, Governors Ball, Dave Matthews Band and other summer arts festivals and concert series. Recently though – it has become globally known as the venue of the one of the nation’s most popular electronic music festivals – Electric Zoo.
Since its debut on Labor Day weekend of 2009, Electric Zoo (a Made Event production) has become New York City’s premier ElectronicMusic Festival, and an EDM Mecca for thousands. Zoo serves as the finale to a summer festival season that includes Coachella, Lollapalooza and, of course, Ultra Music Festival.
People travel cross-country to experience the three-day event. They are treated to a dream-like collection of the world’s most talented artists across a number of sub-genres including, but not limited to, house music, dubstep, and trance.
In 2010 – Zoo catered to a...
sold out capacity crowd of 50,000 over two days – while last year they hosted 85,000 attendees thanks to the new three day format. In 2012 – one can only assume that Zoo will have the largest draw of its short history.
With a line-up that includes headliners David Guetta, Axwell and Tiesto – and a supporting cast that includes Steve Aoki, Benny Benassi, Skrillex, Knife party, Porter Robinson, Martin Solveig, Datsik, Pretty Lights, Laidback Luke, Ferry Corsten, ZedsDead and more – attendees will be more than satisfied with their fix of the best EDM music in the world.
Zoo also boasts a line-up of mid-day sets from some of the world’s best up-and-comers in the EDM world. Unlike other EDM festivals, Zoo strategically places some of the sickest DJs out there in slots early on to ensure a solid balance of talent throughout the day.
You’d be crazy not to arrive early. If you don’t, you’ll risk missing 3LAU, Zedd, Nervo, Rusko, Mord Fustang, Kill the Noise, Jack Beats, Alvin Risk, Krewella and more.
Zoo is a widely appealing EDM festival. Veteran festival goers receive the standard they expect from a top-shelf EDM festival – from environment, to food and drink, arts, and of course the line-up. Novice festival goers receive a three-day crash course education in the phenomenon that is Electronic Dance Music.
Zoo is expected to be among the best music festivals 2012 has seen. In just a few days, we will find out whether or not it will meet those expectations.
