Until Now Swedish House Mafia - Free review

All eyes have been on the Swedish House Mafia since their massive breakup announcement. However, before the big break up announcement the trio were gathering unfathomable attention across the globe for their catchy four on the floor mainstream EDM sound. The long standing DJ's that comprise the trio have been around the block and are no strangers to the most devote electronic music fans. Steve Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Axwell have all said in interviews or alluded that the Swedish House Mafia aura had grown out of control and it was something they no longer wanted to continue with. At this point in the game, with all of the success that they have had through this, their careers have been launched forward and each can continue to be hugely successful as individuals, like in Axwell's Electric Zoo performance, which you can listen to at the bottom here

It's evident that the Swedish House Mafia sound had grown in a direction quite different from the trio's individual careers. The new album 'Until Now' is indicative of that change. Catering to their new audience of newly transitioned 'house' fans, it is apparent in the... music production and covers released by Swedish House Mafia, as most of the tracks hit no harder than most billboard top 100 tracks today.

That being said, 'Until Now' is far from the flop many other wanna be edm critiques like the NYT or Washington Post have called it. 'Until Now' is representative of what the trio has been producing for the past 18 months and is of no surprise. In 2012, mainstream EDM emerged and no one did it better then the Mafia. They brought the super producer mentality to the niche and along with it they built an omnipresent following and a major record label to curate the expansion.

Until Now is the defining album of the 2012 EDM progressive house movement.

It includes all the hits that took the movement from nightclubs to bedrooms and airwaves in the US. Each track on the album will be rediculously familiar to anyone listening to EDM on a realtive frequent basis. Reason being, is that every track has been featured on almost every progressive house dj's setlist in the last 9 months. Glaze over the following track list and see if you can find any new originals:

In my mind

greyhound

Calling

antidote

the island - pendulum

Atom

Epic

don't you worry child

Every teardrop is a waterfall (change to one)

Save the world

For the so called "Last Album" this is a bit of a disappointment for any Swedish House Mafia fan because you failed to receive anything Brand new. Sure, we got "Don't You Worry Child" recently, but it really dropped back in July. Despite that, what you are receiving is a compilation that is a year book of the pop EDM sound that conquered America, and even the world, in the fastest pace of any music revelation in the country.
