(Bostoninno)It’s well-known that this city likes to guzzle our beer. Recently dubbed the Drunkest City in America for the second year in a row, it comes as no surprise, then, that Boston is home to some of the best bars to get brews in the country.
This Boston-area bar’s packed to the rafters with students each night, but the Publick House isn’t a typical college bar: With its deliciously Old World tap and bottle selection (predominantly Belgian and Belgian-style) and authentic abbey décor, it’s the perfect place to study up on Trappist beer culture.
With a selection as vast in scope as the majors of liberal arts students who populate the bar, energetic Sunset’s one of the best spots in Boston to learn beer. Cram your way through epic lists of IPAs, lambics, strong ales and meads before diving into higher-level studies in beer cocktails, like the Cincinnati Lunch Box, a blend of Allagash White, orange juice and Amaretto.
Last year, the list looked nearly the same for Boston, with all three of those mentioned above, as well as Bukowski Tavern, snagging spots on the 2012 list. Which makes me wonder – have we not gained any great beer bars in the past 12 months? What about the Tip Tap Room, which boasts 30 beers on tap? Or (while not new to 2012) Mead Hall in Cambridge? Sounds like Draft Magazine needs to take a trip to Boston soon. From beer to spirits, the steam punkish Deep Ellum offers discerning taste without pretension. Its to-die-for beer list (seriously, Cantillon Saint Lamvinus is on there) is so perfectly curated, it’s even more jaw-dropping than the list of historic Manhattan cocktail creations.
Back in October, GQ named Cambridge Brewing Co. one of the best beer bars in the nation, citing its “Ancient Viking-style concoctions flavored with heather and bog myrtle, hand-picked from local bogs.” Moreover, that same month, USA Today named Boston one of the top 10 beer cities in the world, also giving a nod to Deep Ellum and Sunset Grill & Tap for their extensive beer lists.
What would you deem the best beer bars in Boston?
