late night boston
Boston is a city that goes to sleep EARLY and make not mistake about it, everyone knows. Bostonian's complain about this issue at an unrelenting pace and its a topic that comes up at least once in every bar room each night.  The early closing hours throughout the city are adverse  for those going to late night concerts in Boston.  Most city-goers don't own cars, and the MBTA’s last train is at 12:30 AM. So, where does this leave those getting out of a show or club after 1AM?

There are always rumors flying that the Night Owl service available from 2001 to 2005 will be revived by the MBTA, but in a recent interview with Boston Patch, MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo dispelled these rumors.

“Given the enormous strain on the MBTA’s limited resources, the Authority cannot even consider an extension of service hours,” wrote Pesaturo.

Maybe one day late night rides on the Green Line will be a possibility, but until then Boston show-goers need to find an alternative way home from the show.

A taxi is usually the best option for late night boston rides, but can be expensive and hard to find - but there are several new ways to hail a cab in Boston.
Hailo, a smartphone app, started business in Boston last year and has been growing steadily since. The app allows you to find and hail a taxi near you through a map on your phone. Then, once you have gotten home, you can pay the taxi with your debit or credit card, all through the app. Hailo, though, charges a surcharge fee.

Another Boston app, Pingup, allows you to text for a taxi at any hour without a fee. The app even texts you back when your taxi arrives! You can’t pay for the ride through Pingup, so make sure to have some cash handy for you late night boston ride!

Check out how Pingup works with this video:

Uber is also another App you can use to hail a private car. That's right unlike the aforementioned services Uber specializes in finding you a private town car.  While the rates are higher Uber seeks to ofer users a more premium experience and greater convenience. Not only does the Uber app connect you to BLACK and SUV partners, they also connect riders to TAXI and UBERx options in Boston

The MBTA has never officially ruled out the possibility of late night service and the people of Boston will never stop asking for it. Until they fix their financial issues, though, the MBTA forces EDM fans to pay up for a post show cab.

Worried about travelling after a show? Then you should check out festivals like Camp Bisco, where you can set up a tent near festival grounds! See the line-up here!
