Boston: The Newest Mecca for EDM

By Mike H:

When it comes to the most hyped-up destinations for the heavy-hitters of dance music, Boston is probably not your first thought. Superstars tend to hit clubs in Miami, Los Angeles, New York, and Las Vegas; with DJs such as Kaskade and Eric Prydz  holding down residencies. However given the insane amount of talent that has essentially paraded through the city since last Fall, Boston is rapidly making a case for placing its name among the list of premier cities for EDM in the United States. We even have our own music festival: the Together Festival.

Now, as we gear up for what's shaping up to be an incredible festival season, many of us find ourselves having to pick and choose which shows to go to, as it seems like there is a major show at least once a week. As more and more clubs get in on the action with lucrative EDM nights, promotion companies are finding it easier and easier to lure big names to Boston.

Until recently, electronic music shows were limited to a few venues such as the House of Blues, Royale, and the Middle East. Beginning two summers ago,  Ocean Club in Quincy began hosting Sunday night shows, featuring superstars such as Hardwell, Nicky Romero, and Bingo Players. Other clubs followed suit, with Prime, Bijou, and Gypsy Bar also bringing in an eclectic range of big-name DJs to grace their decks.

As winter moves towards spring, and as Boston clubs continue to sell out show after show, expect Boston promoters to keep reeling in more and more star-studded talent. We can't wait to see what the next year has to offer!
