Boston Calling Festival Founders Sound off on What You need to Know About This Boston Concert!

boston calling
All excerpts taken below are from an exclusive interview with Boston Calling Founders Brian Appel of Crash Line Productions & Josh Bhatti of The Bowery.

By Max K.

The year was 2012 and music was booming across the USA. Major music festivals were popping up in every major metropolis including Miami, New York, LA, and Chicago. The infusion of Wall Street money, coupled with the unprecedented demand for more festivals provided a powerful combination to drive this new market. Insomniac events, Live Nation, ID&T, Made Events, and the new SFX Entertainment conglomerate were amongst the powerhouses fueling the frenzy of mega production and promotion companies. However, despite the rapid emergence of music festivals sweeping across the United States, nowhere in Boston, the most American of all US cities, could a multi-stage, multi-day festival be found.

Fast-forward to 2013. New York plays host to EDC-NY, Sensation, Electric Zoo, Governor's Ball, Mad Decent Block Party, and all the massive events at Governor's Island. Still, no announcement of a major festival in Boston until...

Budweiser: Made in Boston - A Review

By Mike Hurowitz

Hundreds of young Bostonians flocked to the House of Blues on Thursday for the Boston stop on Budweiser's second annual Made in America Tour. Enticed by free beer and music, partygoers had to simply rsvp online for free admission.

Upon entering HOB, we were surrounded by Budweiser signs, slogans, and decorations, but most importantly, loads and loads of free beer! The venue's interior had also received something of a makeover, with a giant screen above the upper mezzanine playing a live feed of the crowd, as well as doubling the amount of visuals being played during the show.

From our perch on the third floor, the crowd looked like a sea of color, with almost everyone in attendance waving manically flashing, color-changing Budweiser glow sticks that had been distributed throughout the crowd. Throughout the show, Budweiser representatives were walking around taking pictures of the attendees, making us a feel, at least for a moment, like something of a celebrity. If that didn't work they had a full on Photo Booth stage, which elevated you 3 feet above the crowd and set the main stage as the photo backdrop.

Opening the event was mashup artist Greg Luskin, aka Milkman, who got the crowd jumping to a set of today's pop hits, stitched together in a tremendously creative manner. Following his set, the electro-pop duo, Time Flies, took the stage, with producer Rob Resnick behind the decks, and vocalist Cal Shapiro breaking hearts with his boy band-esque swagger.

While it may be expected that a free event with free beer could turn ugly (especially in Boston!), almost everyone in attendance acted responsibly, and the event went off without a hitch. Everyone appeared to have a great time.

How To Get Free Beer In Boston This Week! [FOR REAL]

Free beer is a rarity in Boston due to the strict Blue Laws. Nevertheless there is always an exception to a rule and EDMBoston is here to let you in on the secret.

This is huge!

The King of Beers, Budweiser, wants to hook up Boston with Budweiser, Free Budweiser that is.  Not only do they want to hook you up with the King of Beers, but they will also be providing a free private concert featuring Milkman.  The concert is part of the Made in America series which will sweep the country this August.  The event is geared to combine two things every American loves: Beer & Music.

The Full Disclosure - Boston's Secret Show

Although the performance by British duo, Disclosure on Wednesday night was billed as a "secret" show, word certainly seemed to have gotten out by the time we pulled up to the Boston Center for the Arts' Cyclorama on Tremont Street. While fans who had won tickets in advance formed one line, another line for those without tickets stretched almost a full block down the street. Luckily there were no issues, and everyone who showed up ended up getting in.

Put on as a part of MTV Iggy and Intel's "Music Experiment 2.0", the show was free in exchange for a little social media advertising on the part of the fans. While most in attendance scored their tickets with catchy Instagram posts, some who submitted videos won not only a ticket, but the opportunity to be filmed throughout the show for an MTV promotional video. Upon entrance, it was obvious why the show was free, as the walls were spattered with ads for Intel and the logos of other sponsors. There were booths on either side of the entrance where fans could have their faces painted with glow in the dark paint, which provided for some interesting faces throughout the crowd.

Starting slightly late, Disclosure took the stage to tremendous applause from the eagerly waiting crowd. Unlike many electronic acts, Disclosure plays almost an...
