The Full Disclosure - Boston's Secret Show

Although the performance by British duo, Disclosure on Wednesday night was billed as a "secret" show, word certainly seemed to have gotten out by the time we pulled up to the Boston Center for the Arts' Cyclorama on Tremont Street. While fans who had won tickets in advance formed one line, another line for those without tickets stretched almost a full block down the street. Luckily there were no issues, and everyone who showed up ended up getting in.

Put on as a part of MTV Iggy and Intel's "Music Experiment 2.0", the show was free in exchange for a little social media advertising on the part of the fans. While most in attendance scored their tickets with catchy Instagram posts, some who submitted videos won not only a ticket, but the opportunity to be filmed throughout the show for an MTV promotional video. Upon entrance, it was obvious why the show was free, as the walls were spattered with ads for Intel and the logos of other sponsors. There were booths on either side of the entrance where fans could have their faces painted with glow in the dark paint, which provided for some interesting faces throughout the crowd.

Starting slightly late, Disclosure took the stage to tremendous applause from the eagerly waiting crowd. Unlike many electronic acts, Disclosure plays almost an...

...entirely live show, using a keyboard, MPC, and other devices to layer into each track's sample. Opening with the track, "When a Fire Starts to Burn", the pair employed their mellow house sound to work the crowd into it.

Unfortunately, it was apparent early on that the design of the venue was not conducive to great acoustics for an electronic act, and at times it was difficult to hear over the crowd noises, which echoed off the high ceilings. Additionally, there were many in attendance who had come hoping to "fucking rage", as I heard one guy say, which, for those familiar with Disclosure's music, is not the general vibe of their performances.

However as the crowd thinned out a bit towards the end, the lowered crowd noise allowed for a better audio experience for those who stuck around. One of the high points of the night came during their second to last song, when Disclosure brought on British singer, Sam Smith to provide live vocals for their track, "Latch".

Although the night was definitely a mixed bag, given the acoustic problems, it was definitely a very fun time had by most. In a summer where many of the big names have flocked to one venue, it was nice to add some diversity to the summer's lineup.
