Bingo Players Boston Show Review

By Mike Hurowitz

We at EDM Boston would like to send our love and support to Paul Baümer, one half of Bingo Players, as he continues to seek medical treatment following an announcement that he was recently diagnosed with cancer. As they have demonstrated, however, the show must go on! Thus, Maarten Hoogstraten took the stage solo on Sunday night, bringing the pair's production to an eager audience at Boston's House of Blues on Landsdowne.

Whether studying for midterms or fighting off a hangover from Saturday night's raucous celebration of the Red Sox taking home the Pennent, it seemed many people decided to stay home, with an unusually small crowd coming out to the generally packed HOB. This didn't stop Maarten from bringing the roof down, however, as those in attendance can attest.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the show was the stage production. Maarten stood high above the crowd on an elevated platform with a facade of 20 or so large boom-boxes, with two giant screens made to look like speakers on either side of the facade. The "speakers" were actually LED screens, pulsating and flashing to the beat, with the image changing sporadically to match each track.

Standing on his perch, Maarten sampled a wide array of different artists, he added the duo's banging Dutch House sounds to tracks such as Lana Del Ray's "Summertime Sadness," Fatboy Slim's "Eat Sleep Rave Repeat," Avicii's "Silhouettes," and many more.

With the lineup of shows coming to Boston this fall just starting to heat up, keep track of the EDM Boston Calendar of Events so you never miss another event!

DJ Mag Poll #1 DJ Leaked

In an interview with Tiesto, he has confirmed that non other then Hardwell is the number 1 DJ in the DJ Mag Poll. Watch the video to hear the slip. It's pretty obvious it's true as Armin Van Buuren appears saddened that it's not him for a 6th time.

After a dominating year we couldn't think of a DJ more deserving. He delivered masterful sets at all the major festivals and we loved them. Congrats Hardwell!

Bingo Players to Hit Hub Sunday

One of the most anticipated shows this fall is mere days away, as the Dutch house duo, Bingo Players, are set to deliver us a Sunday Funday of epic proportions at the House of Blues on Landsdowne.

Sadly, as they announced on their website in July, only one of the two, Maarten, will be playing their live shows, due to Paul being diagnosed with cancer. Although he is still putting in work in the studio, Paul has elected to stay home in order to seek treatment. We wish him a speedy recovery!

But the show must go on! Hot off a summer filled with festival appearances, from Tomorrowland to EDC Vegas, with many in between, Bingo Players are embarking on a frenzied tour across North America, with Boston as the third stop. The pair has had incredible success in recent years, with their 2012 single, "Rattle" becoming mainstay in countless sets by other artists. Their 2013 release, "Get Up (Rattle)", an upgraded version of the original landed in the Top 10 in countries across Europe, including the Number 1 in the UK.

We can't wait to see what they've got in store for us on Sunday night!

NOTE: keep in mind, if there is a Game 7 of the ALCS, it will coincide directly with the show (Fenway is right across the street from HOB), which could make getting to and from the show rather complicated. Plan accordingly and GO RED SOX!!! And most importantly, get ready to RATTLE!!!!!

Remember to check back at EDM Boston next week for our review of the show!

Want to Dance at Lunchtime on Friday? Now You Can...Details Here

(BostonMagazine) From the time people show up for Flavorpill’s “Lunch Break” events, until the time they walk out of the door, they are usually dancing, said Sascha Lewis, CEO & Co-founder of the online culture guide that sponsors the soirées.
“It’s a dance party in the middle of the day. It’s disruptive in nature. It’s literally a mid-day, during the week, dance party,” he said.

Zeds Dead Set at Royale Boston Delivers

By Mike Hurowitz

Of the many artists/acts that I've had the privilege to see multiple times, Zeds Dead is among the few that have raised the bar with each performance. Their performance at Royale Nightclub on Monday night was no different, as the Canadian duo of Dylan Mamid and Zach Rapp-Rovan, aka DC and Hooks got their Altered States fall tour started off with a bang.

As predicted, the pair shied away from the trap-heavy sets of late, and got back to the bass, with an incredible mix of dubstep, drum and bass, and some jungle, just for good measure. While the start of the show touched on a few trappy tracks, the first hour or so was dubstep-heavy, mixing into a solid 20 minutes of face-pounding drum and bass.

Digging up a wide array of releases from the last couple years, Zeds Dead played tracks such as "Hit Me" off their 2012 Adrenaline EP, as well as their recent remix of Nina Simone's "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood." Towards the end of the show, they played a hot new release, a collaboration with Major Lazor titled, "Turn Around," before closing out strong with a revamped version of their remix of Blue Foundation's "Eyes on Fire."

Having sold out days before the show, Royale was packed to the gills with one of the livest crowds I've seen in quite some time. Judging by the energy on display Monday night, we've got a hot season ahead of us, no matter how short the days are getting!

Stay tuned to the EDM Boston Calendar of Events and never miss another show!
