Zeds Dead Set at Royale Boston Delivers

By Mike Hurowitz

Of the many artists/acts that I've had the privilege to see multiple times, Zeds Dead is among the few that have raised the bar with each performance. Their performance at Royale Nightclub on Monday night was no different, as the Canadian duo of Dylan Mamid and Zach Rapp-Rovan, aka DC and Hooks got their Altered States fall tour started off with a bang.

As predicted, the pair shied away from the trap-heavy sets of late, and got back to the bass, with an incredible mix of dubstep, drum and bass, and some jungle, just for good measure. While the start of the show touched on a few trappy tracks, the first hour or so was dubstep-heavy, mixing into a solid 20 minutes of face-pounding drum and bass.

Digging up a wide array of releases from the last couple years, Zeds Dead played tracks such as "Hit Me" off their 2012 Adrenaline EP, as well as their recent remix of Nina Simone's "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood." Towards the end of the show, they played a hot new release, a collaboration with Major Lazor titled, "Turn Around," before closing out strong with a revamped version of their remix of Blue Foundation's "Eyes on Fire."

Having sold out days before the show, Royale was packed to the gills with one of the livest crowds I've seen in quite some time. Judging by the energy on display Monday night, we've got a hot season ahead of us, no matter how short the days are getting!

Stay tuned to the EDM Boston Calendar of Events and never miss another show!
