Live Nation Looks to Cash In on EDM

(Phoenix new times) About 345,000 electronic dance music fans packed June's Electric Daisy Carnival festival in Las Vegas, 100,000 more than attended last year.

It's an impressive figure, to be sure, dwarfed only by an even bigger number: the millions of disappointed souls who didn't go, forced to be content with merely listening to audio streams, reading blog coverage, or jealously sifting through hundreds of thousands of gleeful tweets from those in attendance.

It's these same disappointed electronica fans who the folks at Live Nation are hoping will snatch up tickets to Identity Festival, a touring EDM extravaganza that will hit 15 cities nationwide, including Phoenix on Sunday, August 19, at Ashley Furniture HomeStore Pavilion.

Showtek Crazy Collaborations Reign Supreme

There must be something in the water over in the Netherlands.  Showtek, like many other Dutch phenoms including Tiesto, Marcel Woods and Hardwell are all rising to the top of the EDM charts and it sure isn’t lonely up there.  Showtek consists of two brothers; Sjoerd and Wouter Janssen and they started producing music in 2001.  Since, Showtek has been on the leading edge of producing hard, edgy dance tracks and their new project entitled Crazy Collabs definitely lives up to its name. Crazy Collabs presents a series of collaborations by Showtek and various producers from all different types of genres going beyond putting music under a specific label or category. Their first Crazy Collab with Tiësto “Hell Yeah!” rose to the top of the Beatport Top 10 charts and has been heard in DJ sets around the world since. 

Showtek’s second Crazy Collaboration with Hardwell has also dominated the charts since its release.  Entitled “How We Do,” the track is filled with Hardwell’s heartfealt synths and Showtek’s raw chords throughout which make for one ultimate dance anthem. Showtek has a bunch of other collaborations lined up including Bassjackers, Noisecontrollers and have been in talks with OWSLA, Skrillex’s label.  Crazy Collabs is all about expanding the boundaries and going outside the box.  From these collaborations one can see Showtek’s passion and hopefully more producers follow suit.

Numerous arrangements of the theme, using tones of a piano to hints of guitar to a huge gated trance lead, keep it intensely interesting from the start. The focus shifts from the bass to a dutch lead at just the right time. And the beat drives the song forward, with the subtle wood block rhythm from the intro returning before the breakdown. After a short relief, the second drop's rising basslines hit even harder.
