DJ Chuckie Review Boston Bijou ||EDMBoston Events

Last Tuesday, Boston was blessed with International Superstar DJ Chuckie.  The larger then life icon, known for his unique Dirty Dutch empire, sold out the event days before his performance at club Bijou, which left people lined up at the door awaiting last minute ticket released.

The EDMBoston.com team was really looking forward to Chuckie’s performance.  The Dirty Dutch DJ had just come off a massive summer tour that featured mainstage performances at both Tomorrowlands and EDC Las Vegas.  Those two events combined put DJ Chuckie’s viewership at over 160,000+ people.  Collectively his viewership throughout the year is unfathomable.  Chuckie plays over 200 gigs a year and is in a different city and often a different country every day of the year.  However tonight Boston, had Chuckie for 1 night.

The international jetsetter rolled into Bijou unassumingly with just security and kept a low profile, despite his international fame.  EDMBoston had the opportunity to greet Chuckie in his private VIP area, after he quietly took a seat and waited patiently to get onstage.  He was very friendly and easy to see why he was so beloved by fans, besides his musical talent.  EDMBoston asked him, “What can we expect next after Betatraxx?” to get some insight into the producers next work.  However, Chuckie gave us a good cackle and said, “I’m not telling” in a friendly tone.  Unfortunately we didn’t get to hear any news about exclusives but Chuckie was more then a good time to hang out with!  He even dropped his new remix of Example.

He greeted the crowd with his customized sample that announced his presence, “D.D.D.Jayyyyyy Chuckieeeeeee” that was looped, chopped, and dissected to give a massive build up to his opening track.  When Chuckie got on the Mic, we heard his legendary dutch voice that has been moving crowds around the world, “HELLO BOSTON!”  From there Chuckie got into his rhythm and let us hear it.

After Chuckie got the Boston crowd comfortable with Ghost N Stuff. He brought down the house with His Mashup of Teen Overdrive featuring Nirvana and Tristan Garner.  The second Overdrive came in, it hit the soul in only a way progressive house bangers can satisfy.

We knew one thing, Bijou’s sound system was ready to go.  Two tracks into Chuckie’s set and it was thumping!  The JBL system they installed into the club could knock and handle Chuckie’s dirty dutch bass productions.  It was an electric atmosphere and the room’s focal point on the omnipresent stage was perfect for getting the crowd fixated on the dj.  Not to mention, Chuckie is a great hype man to make it happen.  The only question that night was could the crowd keep pace with Chuckie?

Chuckie was working his 3 cdj’s cleanly and with precision during the set.  We were standing right next to him to take it all in. We capture unseen footage of DJ Chuckie in the booth, for our loyal EDMBoston.com followers.  One of our favorite moments was when he worked the hotkeys and did a beat juggle with the accapella “I wanna Rock Right Now”. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXKtQuplBDI

Then there was Chuckie’s lengthy innovative way of mixing in Levels.  He opted to scratch and loop in the Etta James vocals over the outro of “What Happens in Vegas”.  Chuckie then brought in the beat of Cazzete’s NYC Mode Bootleg mix of Levels.

Chuckie was able to work the crowd at will during his set.  Yelling out “Let me hear you make some noise if you like house music” and every time he’d get a loud reception.  And then there was his now infamous “WHO IS READY TO JUMP?” which really set the crowd into a frenzy.

Fan Favorite moments of the show were when he played “We found love” chuckie remix and “Levels” Cazzette nyc mode bootleg.  I think the biggest reaction came when chuckie did a slow fade down of Pjanoo and came back with “Paris Satisfaction” Chuckie Remix http://youtu.be/dTJ7Zfin6Bk?t=2m25s
However, the special part of the night came when DJ Chuckie palyed a tribute mashup to the late Whitney Houston.

EDMBoston favorites moments were, Chuckies new remix of “Changed The Way You Kiss Me” and Zedd - Slam the door and Mutate.
