Boston is the 4th Best City in America

(BostoninnoBoston is hipster; Boston has great colleges; Boston is cool. The rankings about the Hub are endless, confusing and often, kind of meaningless. But that doesn’t mean they’re not fun. So, Bloomberg Businessweek decided to take the rankings game up a notch, crowning Boston the 4th best city in America. Yep, just “the best.”

To calculate the “America’s 50 Best Cities,” Bloomberg Businessweek analyzed the country’s 100 most populous cities ”based on leisure attributes (the number of restaurants, bars, libraries, museums, professional sports teams, and park acres by population); educational attributes (public school performance, the number of colleges, and graduate degree holders), economic factors (2011 income and June and July 2012 unemployment), crime, and air quality.”

That was a mouthful, but basically, it means they looked at every single aspect of a city that exists, gave them weighted values, and listed them in order.

Here’s what the article says about Boston, which comes in 4th overall:

Boston isn’t always one of the nation’s safest towns. But few cities can match Beantown’s blend of history, night life, and education. With 22 universities, Boston can seem very much a college town, owning a grimy charm. As New England’s cultural center, Boston combines Gilded Age class with some Atlantic brine, from L’Espalier to B&G Oysters.

Bars: 136
Restaurants: 2,064
Museums: 51
Libraries: 54
Pro sports teams: 3
Park acres per 1,000 residents: 8
Colleges: 22
Percent with graduate degree: 13.8
Median household income: $62,180
Percent unemployed: 6.6

As the drunkest city in America, I’m actually surprised we don’t have a better bars to restaurants ratio. Also, I would consider the Patriots a Boston sports team, so it’s a shame they left them off the list. Still, that unemployment rate is looking pretty fine, as is our number of colleges. You go, Boston.

Maybe next year we can beat out Washington D.C., Seattle and San Francisco, who hold the third, second and first best cities spots, respectively.

Where Are the Women in EDM?

Henry Strange

(Laweekly.comIn the past three years, one woman has ranked in DJ Magazine's yearly Top 100 DJs poll. (Lisa Lashes, #75, 2009). The international EDM circuit is dominated by men like Justice, Diplo, Skrillex, Swedish House Mafia, Tiësto, David Guetta and Avicii, and the underground scene is as much of a boys club. Check the lineup for most any electronic festival and you'll generally find just a handful of female names, usually near the bottom of the list.

So, where are all the women in electronic music?

Central Square EDM Scene || Welcome to the age of electronic

(Wickedlocal) By 11 p.m. on any given night in Cambridge’s Central Square, lines form in familiar places from the Middlesex to the Middle East, the newly opened Naga to the Phoenix Landing. The sounds emanating from each may be different but there’s one thing in common: the throbbing rhythmic beat and the sea of sweaty patrons pouring out at night’s end.

For David Day, co-founder of the MMMMaven Project, electronic dance music – a blanket term coined in the last several years to cover a style of music that’s anything but one genre – it’s more than just a passing trend: it’s the future of music.

“Just like jazz was born out of the Great Depression, I think electronic dance music is a way for people to escape and have fun,” Day said. And just like the Berklee College of Music was established as a way to teach jazz, Day said his hope for MMMMaven, Cambridge’s first and only school for DJs and electronic music production, is to do exactly that with electronic dance music.

Day and co-founder Alex Maniatis first called Central Square home when they moved the headquarters of the Together Festival, a week-long music bonanza featuring mostly electronic-based musicians from a cross-section of subgenres, from Boston to Cambridge. For them, the decision was easy.

“During the day, it’s an amazingly crazy, busy place, but at night, people either go home or come (to Central Square),” Maniatis said. “We looked for some bigger spaces in Boston, but we got to know the local government and the local businesses a lot more and we found that it was the place for us, not only because all of our venues are in walking distance, but it’s also a hub where people go out at night.”

MMMMaven will begin formal four-week classes at the end of the month but they said they already have plans to expand their adult classes to younger audiences after receiving an outpouring of requests before classes even got underway.

The complete embrace of the new school didn’t come as such a surprise to the co-founders who have seen the electronic dance music scene grow from underground to mainstream in just a few short years, despite the fact that it’s been around for literally decades.

Deep roots

When DJ Lenore Fauliso first asked for a night at the Phoenix Landing in 1999 to showcase drum and bass, a form of dance music focused largely on densely layered percussive elements that came out of Britain in the early 1990s, there weren’t any other nights like it.

But for nearly 14 years running, Fauliso and what she calls her extended family, have kept the night alive longer than other drum and bass night in the country.

“That was before things were based on social media. A lot of it was word of mouth and having to go out to other nights, which we were doing anyway because we were already part of the underground electronic music scene,” Fauliso said. “Back then, the music was a lot more underground and nights were more dedicated to specific genres…The way things have branched out lately is to have more multi-genre nights, but we’ve maintained our underground roots.”

The splintering and re-branding of particular genres or styles of electronic music is par for the course to electronic music fans who have seen the rise and fall of particular genres come and go like ocean waves.

Jason Trefts, the newest addition to hip hop promotions company Leedz Edutainment, which just launched it’s electronic arm CRUSH at the Middle East this moth, said the big difference with electronic music now from when it first rose in the late 90’s is just how much it’s growing.

“We’re growing as the scene grows,” Trefts said. “I spend hours researching who we should book and there are still countless acts that I had no idea about whereas I feel like not even a couple of years ago, I knew everybody.”

Randy Deshaies, co-promoter of the Phoenix Landing’s Re:Set Wednesdays, said he had already seen the crest rise and fall on electronic music.

“I’ve already gone through the first wave and I see a lot similarities. I see the same things that were happening in 1999 happening now,” Deshaies said. “Maybe this is the start of a new age of music. It’s definitely true that different pop songs have embraced the aesthetics of electronic music, but we’re got have to keep working to sustain it.”

Digital age

In many ways, fans of the genre said its no coincidence that the rise of electronic music coincided with the rise of the Internet.

“You’re making music on the computer and you can send your tracks out to hundreds of people instantly. That kind of adaptive, collaborative nature of electronic music has propelled innovation so quickly,” Day said, citing websites like SoundCloud that have fostered the growth of electronic music and UStream, a site that literally streams electronic dance parties live.

“It’s a million times easier to share music than ever before,” said Conor Loughman, co-founder of The Brain Trust, an electronic music and hip hop record label that frequently books shows at the Middle East.

Trefts said it represents a democratization of music. He pointed to Coachella, a three-day music festival featuring a variety of artists and genres from indie rock to hip hop, which closed its show with an electronic group not signed to any record label, the Swedish House Mafia.

“There wasn’t anyone telling you to listen to their music, they came up completely independently,” Trefts said. “That’s exciting to me that it’s really the people’s choice and it’s the first music that’s truly speaking for the modern consumer.”

Add to that a college crowd that’s constantly regenerating itself in a city known for its ability to innovate with technology and Day said it’s certainly no surprise that Cambridge is home to a wide variety of venues bumping rhythms.

Central Square Business Association president Robin Lapidus said she considered MMMMaven a technology start up more than anything else.

“It’s the marriage of technology and art,” Lapidus said. “There’s no other place it belongs.”

Deadmau5 Inspired by Pink Floyd, The Wall

Before Deadmau5 can even finish releasing his current album ">Album Title Goes Here<" he is already talking about his next, which you can read about below.  Our question is he talks about taking a year off from touring and we're curious as to how he'll attempt that one?

(411mania) Deadmau5 says that he wants his next album to be a concept album similar to The Wall. Deadmau5 told MTV that he is planning to take a year off of touring in order to put the album, his follow-up to the just-released > album title goes here<, together.

The DJ said, ">Album Title Goes Here< is like a poster book of my year and the work I got done in the chaos kind of thing. Hopefully next time - and I know I say this every f***ing time - that I'll have this year off of touring and put together something that's like Pink Floyd's The Wall."

As to > album title goes here <, he said, "It wasn't one of those albums where I did 'A, B, C, this is the way the album is going to go' with the tracks, because I had a big fucking tour year. I would get home for a couple of weeks, and I would do one song, then people saw that, I streamed it live and then I thought, 'Okay, I'll put it on the album." Music Industry Takes EDM to the ATM

(prwebAlzie Ramsey of EDM record label Black Widow Music, LLC has recently decided to voice his opinion on the recent gold rush occurring within the music industry. Ramsey personally believes that this is one of the first official outcries against this debauchery.

“EDM has been around and thriving since the 70s and all of a sudden there’s this enormous explosion of the genre,” states Ramsey.

What artists need to do is take a closer look at what is actually happening before it’s too late. Selling out to the corporate world and commercialism is a disgrace and the hand that is feeding you will eventually destroy you.”

Anyone who has been following this genre (even remotely) knows that events such as Ultra Music Festival and Electric Daisy Carnival attract fans literally by the hundreds of thousands in number. Consequently, the financial returns are millions of dollars and hungry corporations are vying to take it all. The latest trends in EDM have been Avicii playing for Madonna and Ralph Lauren, Swedish House Mafia and Absolut Vodka, Swedish House Mafia and Usher, Ne-Yo and Calvin Harris, Rihanna and Calvin Harris and the list goes...

Tommy Trash Boston Show Electrifies Prime

The EDM fever has infected Boston and along with it has not only come new fans but also remodeled venues.  Umbria Prime on Franklin Street, in the heart of Boston's Financial District, is one of the venues to see changes come its way.  The center bar has been removed, freeing up a lot of space, and new sound added.  In addition, a new DJ booth has been installed in the back corner to give the space a feel more suited to DJ-specific shows.

Along with the physical changes to the venue has also come a rebranding effort.  Umbria Prime has been renamed "Prime" and the venue now boasts a Sunday night lineup filled with top EDM talent.

On September 23rd the venue played host to electro house star Tommy Trash.  Tommy Trash Boston Show kicked off at midnight and the artist didn't look back.  Trash's signature curly hair bounced raucously through the air as the artist head banged and partied to his hard hitting tracks all night long.  Trash was instrumental in opening up slowly and building energy.

Trash opened the set up with...

Richie Hawtin Boston Show Announced: CNTRL Details here

We literally almost Sh*t our pants when we received this press release and couldn't wait to share it with everyone.  Never did we think Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice, Paco Osuna, or Ean Golden would come to Boston.  No matter how big EDM got here we never believed that tech house, techno would get popular enough to attract these kinds of artists.  Nevertheless, the ENTER crew has taken the risk and announced a college tour for the fall in North America.

The tour will be called "CNTRL: Beyond EDM" and will not be your average college tour playing gigs city after city.  Instead Richie Hawtin and his crew will combine educational daytime lectures focusing on the techno and technology aspects of modern-day electronic music.  Within these lectures you can also expect to hear from Richie's sound technician, Johannes Kramer, talk about sound quality, and Loco Dice to comment on mixing in old-school dj skills into modern technology.  Not to be out down Ean Golden will discuss digital djing and controllerism.

So not only will Boston have the opportunity for a rediculous party you will have the chance to listen in on some legends and gain a wealth of knowledge!

Below are the tour dates after the JUMP:

Armin Talks ASOT 600 Location Choice

(InTheMix
Having only recently wrapped up the A State Of Trance 550 tour, trance don Armin van Buuren isn’t looking at any downtime in the foreseeable future. Down the line from Mexico last week, the Dutchman told inthemix all about his full slate: a rapidly-evolving new album, a summer season at Privilege in Ibiza (he’s playing every week, except on his daughter’s birthday), a string of festivals in the months ahead, and of course his role at the helm of the A State Of Trance empire.

Already the petitions have started from fans hoping that the ASOT 600 celebrations will visit their hometown in 2013, and both Sydney and Melbourne are among the hopefuls. Naturally, we asked Armin if there’s any hope for the tour to make the long haul down here.

“At the moment, nothing’s decided, but I’ll have to give you a bit less hope, actually,” he said (cue the deflated sighs from his Australian followers). “I am a firm believer in not over-exposing myself. I will do less A State Of Trance gigs next year. I’ll tell you why: I think it’s essential that I actually do what I talk about. I always say I want to promote new talent, and with ASOT I am doing that. It’s essential that I reach crowds all over the world and get them to join a global trance family. I want to try new territories every year.”

The DJ admitted the barracking is already heading towards fever pitch. “With the campaigning that’s currently going on, it’s getting really ridiculous already,” he went on. “I have to be really careful with this responsibility to not just promote Armin van Buuren or Armada artists, but see it as a chance to bring trance to new people. It’s not about cashing in on a quick ticket sale. I want to make a statement with that. So to answer your question, I want to go to countries where I know the clubber can get value for money. Given all these festivals around and the ridiculous amounts of money that the promoters ask, this is something I want to work.” Well…he didn’t give a flat-out “no”, did he?

Nero: Won't You Be There- New Dubstep [FREE DOWNLOAD]

By Lauren

Our boys Nero have just released a free track today on their facebook and Soundcloud. They say on their Facebook that the song was "a dancefloor tune we initially wrote to play out in our DJ sets, but we thought that while we work on our 2nd album we'd give it to you guys".
Here's to a huge thanks on Nero's part-- showing how proper music distribution should be done!

It's a heavy, very Nero-esque dubstep tune that flows like "Innocence", also by the British duo off their first album Welcome Reality. Perhaps this is a taste of what is to come on their new album? Do you expect to see similar song progressions or do you think Nero will be moving towards a different sound? Let us know.

Nero will be returning to Boston on December 15 at Royale!! Be sure to catch them as they are definitely a show worth seeing!

In the mean time, grab the song here or on their soundcloud.

Who Taught Deadmau5 how to perform?

(Music.Gearlive.com) Deadmau5 learned his showmanship from KISS. The producer wears a mouse-shaped helmet when performing and is known for putting on one of the most spectacular visual shows in dance music - making him one of the most highly paid DJs in the world - and he claims the idea came from the 70s glam rock band.

"The big turnaround for me was going to a Kiss concert. They're terrible. They suck so bad. I hope they don't read this. But their show is a f***ing show. They put a lot into making it entertaining. At one point, the guitarist pulls out a fricking bazooka and blows off a bit off the stage. How things have changed. I remember when [Nine Inch Nails frontman] Trent Reznor used to bring out a crappy old keyboard and smash it up, and everyone would say: 'Oh wow, that was so cool, we were at the concert where Trent snapped and smashed up his keyboard!' Bull***t. He used to do that every night. I loved the theatrics. It's about spectacle. That's what I realized."

Deadmau5 - real name Joel Zimmerman - added that he's become so used to playing in front of thousands of fans every night, high stakes gambling is the only thing that still gives him a rush: "I play a nightclub and everyone's freaking out: 'I love you, deadmau5!' I'm desensitized to it. If you wanna really get my heart rate going, gimme $100,000 credit in a casino, let me burn it down until I have $20 left and then I'm in a panic," he added.

Swedish House Mafia on What's Next ~Rollingstone

(Rollingstone) Before Swedish House Mafia head off into the sunset, the dance music trio plan on a long goodbye with a farewell album, Until Now, and one final tour (with dates to be announced this Monday). And after that, they have no clue – which is the point of calling it quits.

"Because we did this move, we hope to find ourselves in a situation where we do not know what we’re doing, which is sort of us trying to create some sort of chaos, mix shit up a bit for ourselves," Sebastian Ingrosso told Rolling Stone before the group's set at the iHeartRadio Music Festival. "It’s an experiment to ourselves."

As part of that experiment, the three members – Ingrosso, Steve Angello and Axwell – are giving themselves the liberty to...

Flood by RL Grime

Of the trap producers in the game today, nobody can doubt the skill that RL Grime has in his work. Coming off of the huge "Mercy" remix, his original production "Flood the Block" doesn't disappoint. While this is still very heavy trap sounding, there are some electro and big room elements that can easily help put this song into the rotation of a variety of DJ's this Fall.

Deadmau5 Professinal Griefers Video One Big Satire?

A Mau5’ Satire

By: Adam

Among the biggest names in electronic, Deadmau5 is one who s very vocal with his dissatisfaction in the rise of new DJ’s and the explosion of dance music into the mainstream. Recently, his first music video, “Professional Griefers”, was the most expensive EDM video ever. Plastered with robots, rednecks, and partiers, it had everything to compliment the high energy beats in the track. However, when thinking about his interview and blog history, I couldn’t help but feel that the whole thing is a satire and expression on what Joel wants, rather than what Deadmau5 is.

From Kia Soul using “In My Mind” to Skrillex working for Disney, it can be fair to say that EDM is becoming commercialized and mainstream. Out of his own mouth, Deadmau5 says “EDM is as commercially viable as coca cola”. Plastered through the video is the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s logo. Watching this event and go down are hundreds live, and people from every background all over the world, including those country bumpkins.  With this, Joel is expressing how much that EDM has saturated pop culture and how everyone wants to get in on the action. The iconic Mousehead is here a larger than life robot, making a parallel of how huge it all has become. Deeper than mocking the commercialism and mainstream appeal of this, however, is what Joel is trying to say about...

Starsmith- Zeros || Electro Pop [FREE DOWNLOAD]

By: Lauren

Starsmith, (Finlay Dow-Smith) is a British producer I've been following for a bit of time now. He is most noted for his official remixes of big pop names like Ellie Goulding, Cheryl Cole, Lady Gaga, and N.E.R.D. This Brit produced Goulding's #1 album Lights with her and also worked on singles with other artists. He has produced a minimix for BBC Radio 1's own Annie Mac and says he has plans for more of his own original tracks.

Today we feature one of Starsmith's own creations: an electro song called "Zero" driven by a dubby bassline and synths that deserve a place in Back To The Future. This song reminds us of David Guetta and Afrojack's song "Lunar" off Guetta's Nothing But The Beat album. Starsmith is very talented at bringing a song up and letting it drop into a trance-like rhythm, which many fans will appreciate. While there are no lyrics in this song, it displays the talent this up and coming producer has as a synth master is reminiscent of the early Eric Prydz days.

Even though he has no album plans, keep an eye open for Starsmith in the future. We'll be seeing him around, for sure.

He even loves his fans enough to give this song out as a free download so go grab it here!

Diplo's New Project Releases Music Video

Earlier this week, Diplo dropped a preview of a track off his new project called "About that Life".  The song features vocals from Jahan Lennon.  The internet was ablaze with bewilderment as to what diplo was up to. Nevertheless, we kept our calm because he is one of the most creative minds in the music industry.  Over the last year, Diplo has engrossed himself in multiple genre's that would make any other artists head spin.  Instead it inspired him and gave birth to something new.  He's been at the forefront of Moombahton, Trap, and Pop music.  With his recent escapade with Snoop Lion into Reggae, it's no surprise that Diplo's new track "About that Life" dabbles in something new.  The southern gospel psychedelics is out there, but it follows suite in Armin Van Buuren's classic saying "Don't be a prisoner of your own style".  In addition to "About that Life" the solo album will also feature Diplo's explosive "Express Yourself"

The announcement came early this morning, when Redfoo broke the news that LMFAO are taking a break to pursue individual interests. “I feel like we’ve been doing this for so long, five or six years,” he told news.com.au. “And we’re kind of like saying, well, let’s just do what’s natural and just kind of explore that, instead of like forcing it all the time.” Redfoo added that he and SkyBlu were headed in “different directions” and didn’t know when (or if?) the pair would ever reunite musically.
The uncle and nephew team first began performing together in 2006, releasing their debut albumParty Rock in 2009, which scored a nomination for Best Dance/Electronica Album in the following year’s Grammy Awards. But it wasn’t until last year that the pair broke through with Party Rock Anthem from their second album Sorry for Party Rocking (read the in-depth ITM review here), the release also spawning your jam of the decade Sexy And I Know It. From there, the duo went about spreading the “party rock mission”, touring with our own Stereosonic in 2011 and attracting the attention of Santigold.
But all’s not lost for LMFAO devotees, as Redfoo also revealed that he has plans to release a fashion line and launch a solo career. “All the music that I’m going to make is always going to be LMFAO-ish,” he assured. “I was really passionate about bringing party music to the world, so I will always be making some kind of party music.”

For Matthew Koma, collaborations carry him to top

(USATODAY) Long Island-bred singer/songwriter Matthew Koma, who performed at USA TODAY's 30th anniversary party Thursday night, got his first publishing deal at 16. At 25, he's collaborating with leading pop and electronic dance music artists: Ryan Tedder and Sebastian Ingrosso (of Swedish House Mafia) on the Beatport chart-topping hit Calling(Lose My Mind); Zedd on Spectrum; and LMFAO's Redfoo and Carly Rae Jepsen on her new single, This Kiss. He'll promote his own EP, Parachute, on tour with Owl City this fall, after earlier gigs with LMFAO and Far East Movement.

Chip off the old rock: Growing up, Koma idolized Elvis Costello but had another role model closer to home: dad Gerald Bair, a singer/songwriter. "Music was always a huge part of our lives. The first time I got onstage, it was with him, at the Red Lion" in New York's West Village. "I was 4. I wore ripped jeans and a dungaree jacket. I was going through my Soul Asylum phase."

Bassnectar has Untouched Stash of Beats for Upcoming tour

In an interview Bassnectar did for a Greensboro North Carolina publication he reveled some exciting new details about his upcoming tour!  Read below to see what he had to say

(yes weekly)"Whatever clout conventional rock stars once possessed now belongs to the top tier of electronic dance music producers, so a recent spate of critical wisdom goes. In that case, might be fair to say that Lorin Ashton, the tressed beat merchant behind the Bassnectar moniker, is closer in his genealogy to the jazz titans of the ’50s and ’60s. There’s no Point A to Point B with his music as there is within the established rock context; it’s Point E to B with a stop at Roman numeral. A devoted bass head could experience an entire live show and pick out only a handful or recognizable tracks out of the dozens he weaves throughout hours of music. That wouldn’t necessarily be for a lack of listening, either, because Ashton’s sets are an exercise in controlled anarchy; a reckless dance party fueled by bass and piloted by a man whose most trustworthy instruments are his eyes and ears. He’s kicking off a new tour in Greensboro next week with a fresh batch of home-cooked beats to share that abide by a single rule: There are no rules.

Disney Animates Skrillex

SKRILLEX LANDS CAMEO IN NEW DISNEY FILM

Post & Photo taken from Mixmag

Disney aren't strangers to grabbing hot DJ talent to cameo in their movies off the back of the soundtrack. Back in 2011 they got Daft Punk. Now it seems Skrillex is stepping into Disney-land.

A couple of months ago Mixmag reported that Skrillex would score some of the soundtrack to Disney's upcoming animated feature Wreck It Ralph.

After Total Film magazine watched 30 minutes of the new film, it has emerged that Skrillex is not only providing the music but also lending his vocal talents and likeness to star in a cameo role.

Clark Spencer, the film's producer, spoke about how Skrillex went from EDM superstar to Disney cartoon. "We went to him first and said, 'Hey, we have this party scene in the world of Fix It Felix Jr, and we have a DJ and we think it would make a nice cameo if we put you into it.' And he was ecstatic," he said.

"We built his model, we put on his look, and we sent it to him to have him give us comments. And he said he would never wear non-black tennis shoes. He said 'My tennis shoes will always be black'. So we changed the tennis shoes to black.

"You don't see them in the film, as he's behind the DJ booth, but they were in the model. He has seen the animation, and he's very, very excited about it."

Unfortunately Wreck It Ralph doesn't hit UK screens until February 2013 so until then have a gander at the trailer below.
[Disclaimer: The above image is not the official Skrillex cartoon. It will probably be a lot better than this one.]

Yahoo! to stream iHeart Radio Music Festival

iHeart Radio Music Festival is coming up this weekend!  Aren't you excited?

For fans that can’t be, or don't want to be at a pop festival in Las Vegas, Yahoo! will be live streaming it.  That means you can see some of the biggest crossover names: Swedish House Mafia, Deadmau5, and Calvin Harris in your living room/bedroom for free.

My question is what will Deadmau5 compose his set with for a pop festival?

Where Did You Go (Bassjackers Remix)

By Adam

With the EDMBoston Morgan Page Interview just up, it's only fitting that we have the Bassjackers remix of his track "Where Did You Go?". Straight from the Netherlands, there's no holding back on the blippy buildups, melodies, and hard drops that Dutch House is so notable for. Hope everyone enjoyed Bassjackers at Dayglow yesterday!

Tritonal vs Ost & Meyer - Broken Antalya (Tritonal Mashup)

Rising lifts and soulful vocals are a magical combination for any trance track.  In Tritonal's original track "Broken Down", Meredith Call lended her voice to the track for a moving performance.  Tritonal has decided to take those lovely vocals and repackaged them into a new mashup. Their track of choice was Ost & Meyer's "Antalya".  Hence "Broken Antalya" was born.  It's an energetic track to get your monday going!

Markus Schulz - Love Rain Down (Dabruck and Klein Remix) || Prog House

By: Lauren

Markus Schulz, the German progressive house/trance DJ has been taking the world by storm in the last year. After appearing at Ocean Club this past summer, his new album “Scream” was released at the end of August, featuring a song entitled “Love Rain Down” with vocalist Seri.

The Dabruck and Klein remix was featured on the most recent of Arty’s “Together We Are” podcast, and we thought it was so good that it deserved its own post. Taking a page from his trance days, Markus’ “Love Rain Down” is an uplifting and continuously melodic electric track. This remix makes it into a heavier bass-driven progressive house song, with choppier vocals and flowing synths. The buildup is the classic progressive overlay of romantic female vocals mixed with piano tinkles that drops into a pulsing, trance-y groove.

With the release of Scream Markus is for sure to have a big year coming up for him.

This remix along with 7 others are available exclusively on Beatport. Buy it here.

Bingo Players, Electric Zoo Performance Explained from Their Eyes

Our route to New York City was not your average one; from our home in Holland we jetted over to Mexico City to a show, then one day later we were in Las Vegas DJ'ing one the best pool parties of the summer. Finally, 48 epic hours later, we found ourselves en route to Electric Zoo -- our plane touched down in Newark at 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

After three and a half hours of sleep we were off to Electric Zoo, in our 15-passenger van with our crew -- ready to play. Once we arrived on Randall's Island we had a quick meeting with our management team to share some of our new tracks that we would showcase later in our set. After the meeting we spent some time talking to our fellow DJ's in the artists lounge alongside the East River.

One short hour later, we took the Main Stage to play for a massive crowd! When we were on the stage, you saw us perform, we saw you in the crowd, but could you tell what we were thinking?

Festivals are a time for us to see...

MAJOR LAZER ALBUM RELEASE DELAYED

We've been chatting about him for the last two weeks, after watching him live at Electric Zoo.  EDMBoston can't get enough of his unique trap, wobbly, dancehall, experimental sound and now it looks like we will have to wait that much longer to hear Diplo's new Album entitled " Free The Universe' under his Major Lazer alter-ego.

The Major Lazer Album Release is Delayed until February 2013.  The reason: Diplo has been to busy touring to finish it.  We believe the mega producer has been busy with other projects and touring.  If you've followed the headlines he has had his hands in so many projects over the last month it would make most artist blush.  Think about what he has been up to: producing for Snoop Lion just to name one.  He also has his label to manage and weekly radio show on BBC.  This leaves little time for him to focus on his own work.

The new album is set to feature collaborations with Erza Koenig from Vampire Weekend, Shaggy, Flux Pavillion, Dev and Bruno Mars.

We hope he finds the time to take a breather and then finish the album.

Avicii Interview with Wall Street Journal: Talks Yankees & Madonna

Just like big money, the Wall Street Journal can't help but follow Electronic Dance Music.  Take a listen into what they discussed with Avicii.  They cover his recent show at Yankee Stadium with Madonna, his infamous plaid, and if he's sold out.

(Wall Street Journal) Swedish DJ Avicii is one of the most in-demand artists in his genre, electronic dance music, but he’s also riding the wave of EDM’s re-emergence and crossing over into other areas: pop and fashion, to name two.

Avicii, who follows in the footsteps of Swedish House Mafia (whom he has called a major influence on his work) has made $7 million in the past year, according to Forbes, and he ranked 10th in the magazine’s list of the world’s highest-paid DJs.

The 23-year-old, whose real name is...

Morgan Page Interview Electric Zoo

EDMBoston was fortunate enough to catchup with Vermont native, Morgan Page.  After his successful release of his album In The Air in Late 2011, he has been a busy man.  He opened for Avicii at the TD Boston Garden show and has played a lot of massive festivals.

Listen in to his inspiration behind playing some 80s songs at his Electric Zoo set, his new Tesla, and what he thought of the Avicii Boston Garden Show!

We'd like to give a special shout out to Dylan at DKOPhotography for producing the video above.  Check out his facebook page and give him a like to see his event photos and videos.

Deadmau5, Kat Von D Dating?

Deadmau5 has dated a variety of woman from playboy models to um actually we're not sure.  However, now he can add new girlfriend tattoo artist Kat Von D to the list.

Those of you that follow Deadmau5 on twitter may have noticed Joel signing a different tune then the artist's typically troll or rant messages, as of late.  That's right happy, mushy stuff that we're not use to.

It appears Deadmau5 and Kay Von D have been romantically entwined and not afraid to admit to their affection publicly.  Deadmau5 even went as far as to tweet on Sunday:

So the question is: How long until Kat Von D dons the mau5head and trys to press some buttons?
