Swedish House Mafia Reunion to Happen This Summer?
4/30/2013 10:00:00 AM
one last tour, reunion, swedish house mafia
May the predicted Swedish House Mafia Reunion show happen sooner then even the cynical pundits predicted?
Mixmag has reported it is a strong possibility to happen this summer. The three former members of Swedish House Mafia, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Axwell, will all be in Ibiza this summer. Their occupation of the White Isle comes with reason. Ingrosso and Axwell are launching a new wednesday party at Ushuaia named Departures. Leaving the lone wolf, Steve Angello, to throw his own after party at new ibiza club, Bomba.
Due to the Mafia's former members geographic proximity, it's not a stretch to assume the three friends will appear in the booth together at some point this summer. Not to mention the times conveniently mesh well together to make such an appearance happen.
While all this is speculation at this point, it appears reasonable that it will be hard to keep the inseparable friends apart.
Do You Think The Reunion Will Happen This Summer? Sound off in the comments below.

Deadmau5 New Music is On The Horizon
The mau5 is back and not with love stories or details of his wedding. In fact Deadmau5 has returned with what made him noticed, his music. Last week his soundcloud received an injection of life with two new projects he's been working on.
Deadmau5 new music stay true to his modular production roots, so long time fans should be pleased. In “Moog bass + Modular” Joel blesses us with a soft and ambient melody while the second sample “Assume Control” takes a harder bleepy line much a tuned to Afrojack's signature sound.
Has Deadmau5 got a little Afro fever?
On soundcloud, Deadmau5 nipped any such feelings in the bud, “Sorry for the ‘jacked afro’ crap at the end there… was testing a module out, wanted to see if i could get a saw to resync on note retrigger / rise n fall of pitch stuff. for science.”

diplo, major lazer
(Huffingtonpost)At the end of a Saturday interview with Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire of Major Lazer during the second weekend of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, I mentioned my upcoming conversation with 2 Chainz, scheduled for later in afternoon.
Diplo's eyes lit up: "Tell him to come on stage and perform with us."
In 2 Chainz' smoke-filled tour bus about an hour later, I casually brought up Diplo's request. The interview, which was slowly wrapping up, ended abruptly: 2 Chainz took out his phone and immediately called Diplo. When the call went to voicemail, 2 Chainz asked me to reach out to my contact in Diplo's camp. I did, and eventually Diplo's people spoke to 2 Chainz people -- all while a freshly baked Chainz frantically listened to "Bubblebutt" and tried to re-memorize his lines.
Thirty minutes later, Jillionaire and Diplo were telling a crowd of rabid festival goers that they had a special guest: 2 Chainz, who came out, plowed through his verse with trademark swagger, and promptly left the stage.
Sometimes even when Diplo doesn't call you, you answer anyway.
As the head of Mad Decent, an independent record label that recently notched a Billboard No. 1 in the form of Baauer's "Harlem Shake," Diplo has found himself...

Identity Festival to be No More?
4/25/2013 02:00:00 PM
fake, identity festival, tour poster
Identity Festival was the first and only national touring EDM festival that ran from 2011 to 2012, featuring huge artists like Kaskade and Eric Prydz as headliners.
Recently, a flyer for the 2013 Identity Festival has been circulating online (seen here), claiming that the United State's only touring EDM festival would be returning from July 18 through August 17, 2013.
However, this flyer is highly likely to be fake. A quick view of the ID Fest's Facebook shows no activity since December, with people constantly posting "Any updates on the 2013 tour?" to no avail.
ID Festival's website shows nothing but the logo for Synergy Glogal Entertainment (SGE) (the production company that once hosted ID Fest).
A peek at their Twitter account also shows no activity since December, with their Twitter description reading in the past tense: “OFFICIAL Twitter of IDENTITY, which was the first ever touring electronic only festival from 2011-12. Account was managed by @nehamodi.”
The last tweet on the account was a response to @BeatsNotBombs_ saying "I need @IDENTITYfest back...", with a short response: "@BeatsNotBombs_ meee toooo" (@IDENTITYfest).
Sources close to EDM Boston say that there will be no ID Festival returning for 2013. Why? We don't know for sure yet. However, speculation is that is has something to do with the 2 deaths at the Mansfield stop on the tour last year.
We will keep you updated as we learn more.

Researcher Aims To Cure with Ecstasy
(Huffington Post) British Countess Amanda Feilding began taking LSD as a comparative religions student at Oxford. Five decades later, she describes her first trips with aplomb.
"I thought it was ... very similar to mystical experiences I'd read about, and I came up with a hypothesis of how it worked on the brain," says Feilding, now 70.
Feilding sat in the lobby of Oakland Marriott Hotel with her filmmaker son and his friend, the luxury department store heir Omar Fayyed as she spoke with us about her life as a renowned drug researcher. Feilding conducts clinical trials on ecstasy and magic mushroom use in Russia and the UK; Fifteen years ago she launched her own charitable trust called the Beckley Foundation, and now she's using it to advocate for productive use of psychedelic drugs.
Ecstasy can cure depression -- the "biggest scourge to modern society," she says. It can help war veterans uncover and expel violent memories. It can unstop mental blocks and help artists lose their inhibitions. Talk to Feilding for 20 minutes and she might convince you that legalizing these drugs would be an easy fix for many social ills.
She certainly has an audience in Oakland, which is still clinging -- perhaps futilely -- to its image as a marijuana hotspot. This week the Beckley Foundation is sponsoring a five-day conference at the Oakland Marriott, attracting a motley crew of drug enthusiasts, policy reformers, hemp-cloth-wearers, mystics, and grizzled veterans to its panel discussions and workshops.
Called thePsychedelic Science 2013, it may be the most extravagant drug conference that doesn't involve an EDM stage show. It does, however, include a Sunset Cruise and a party at 1015 Folsom St. to celebrate the LSD's 70th birthday. There will also be a lot of pro-drug evangelizing.
Even with the recent crackdown on Oakland's medical marijuana industry, psychedelic drugs seem to be enjoying a new renaissance -- and old, earthy academic-types are as apt to use them as young ravers and punks. The workshops at Psychedelic Science honed in on practical uses for your Molly pills, from fighting alcoholism, to alleviating mood disorders, to easing pain at the end of life.
Famed South Carolina couple Michael and Ann Mithoefer -- who've already drawn attention from Oprah -- will share research they've done with firefighters and cops suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. Doctor Anthony Bossis will discuss research he's done to cure anxiety in cancer patients. One Vietnam vet at the Mithoefer's pre-conference workshop says he takes ecstasy once a month now, and he's bought into the philosophy whole cloth.
To many of the initiated, these drugs are a panacea.
Of course, not everybody buys it. Feilding says that many academics are reluctant to join her projects for fear of spoiling their careers. And while the Beckley Foundation appears to be coasting along just fine -- Feilding works with multiple British universities and with Johns Hopkins in the United States -- other such organizations have trouble filling their coffers, owing to what Feilding calls an ingrained "taboo."
Still, there's hope of courting a younger generation with disposable income and fewer qualms about drug use. Feilding said she was at a party with a bunch of technocrats the other night (she won't say who) pitching them on ideas about the salutary use of marijuana. And guess what? They totally dug it.

What is all this noise about CISPA?
4/23/2013 02:00:00 PM
bassnectar, CISPA, lorin
By Justin:
If you frequent any social media site, I am sure that by now you have heard about something called CISPA. Everyone is ranting and raving about this new Cyber Security Bill that is swirling around in Congress.
What is CISPA?
"CISPA stands for The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, a network and Internet security bill written by Representive Mike Rogers (R-MI) and Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD) (H.R. 624). The bill purports to allow companies and the federal government to share information to prevent or defend against network and other Internet attacks. However, the bill grants broad new powers, allowing companies to identify and obtain “threat information” by looking at your private information.
The bill is written so broadly that it allows companies to hand over large swaths of personal information to the government with no judicial oversight—effectively creating a “cybersecurity” loophole in all existing privacy laws."
Companies such as Google, Microsoft and AT&T have all openly endorsed the bill because if passed, it will alleviate all responsibility of protecting personal privacy rights from whoever visits their sites.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation has kindly provided some FAQ information about CISPA More on CISPA here!
What Do You think About CISPA? Tell us on Facebook or Twitter
A couple of your favorite DJs such as Dillon Francis and Bassnectar have expressed their disdain for the act and I am sure there will be more to come:
Diplo, DJ BL3ND Fued: Buying Fame - The Complete Story
By Kyle:
As the EDM world grows more and more by the day, artists are finding different ways to make their music known, and become popular on social media. However, last week, an up and coming artist by the name of DJ Bl3nd made a bold move in order to gain fame. BL3ND’s actions offended several well known artists, including Diplo and Deadmau5.
Overnight, the amount of likes for this “DJ” skyrocketed to over 3,000,000. That is more Facebook likes that Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, Above and Beyond, and Diplo all put together. Seems a little fishy doesn't it?
This is not the first time DJ Bl3nd has been accused of this either. With several million views on his youtube “mixes,” yet nowhere near as many fans, people and artists across the communtity are understandably upset.
This is not the first time DJ Bl3nd has been accused of this either. With several million views on his youtube “mixes,” yet nowhere near as many fans, people and artists across the communtity are understandably upset.
Last week, well known artist, Diplo, took this annoyance to another level and called DJ Bl3nd out. At the IMS Engage Social Media Panel, Diplo made comments referring to the purchase of Facebook likes by DJ Bl3nds management. These comments were not taken lightly and resulted in Steven Haddad, DJ Bl3nd’s manager, screaming from the audience. This retaliation by the DJ Bl3nd management then angered Diplo’s manager, Kevis Kusatsu, who forcefully told Haddad to shut up. At the conclusion of the panel, the heated argument escalated leading to a brawl between management staff, pictured below.
The fued between Bl3nd and Diplo spilled over to Twitter after the event, with other artists such as Deadmau5 chiming in.
Deadmau5 text to Diplo:
DJ Bl3nd funny response:
This alleged purchase of Facebook likes angers me as an EDM fan. However, without forensic analytics we don't know if Bl3nd is truly purchasing likes or simply dominating the social media game. Nevertheless, if he or other artists are purchasing "Likes" it is unfair to artists who have worked hard for years to acieve the fans that they have today. Don’t buy your fame to get your name out there.
Diplo has since apologized for his actions, but DJ Bl3ND is sticking to his guns and claiming that he has never purchased Facebook likes. DJ Bl3ND's fan-base known as "Blenders" strongly back BL3ND up, claiming that he is becoming one of the BEST in the business Either way, 3,000,000 likes overnight, raises some eyebrows, for both praise and questioning.
What do you think - Is Bl3nd purchasing Likes on Facebook?

Markus Schulz Boston: Screaming Review
4/22/2013 02:00:00 PM
boston, markus schulz
By Mike Hurowitz
Anyone who was lucky enough to be in Boston at Royale Nightclub on April 10th could tell you that it was an incredibly special night. With serious star power in The M Machine as the opening act, and superstar German trance producer Markus Schulz set to play for a full two hours, little else could have been expected.
Schulz got the Boston crowd going immediately, taking the stage as soon as The M Machine had walked off. Starting off with an energetic track, he surprised fans with a quick blast of the confetti cannons two minutes into the show. What struck me as perhaps the most remarkable part of the show was Schulz's ability to maintain a sense of momentum throughout the set. Although the entire set was incredibly high energy, he brought it in waves, building a track up until the crowd seemed ready to burst, and finally breaking it down.
The Markus Schulz Boston set truly was something special. Perhaps riding his momentum from incredible performances at the various ASOT 600 events, in particular his New York collaboration with Ferry Corsten, in a project called New World Punx, made it a night to remember. While he remixed many popular tracks by other artists, such as "Out of my Mind" by Bingo Players, or "Dream Within a Dream", by Hanz Zimmer, perhaps most memorable was his nod to trance god, Armin van Buuren, with "D# Fat" featuring W&W.
Markus Schulz, the first in a string of trance artists who are slated to hit Boston over the next month, was a great way to kick it all off. We can only imagine what is in store for us with Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren and more set to perform at venues across Boston.

A Letter to Our Followers From Max, EDMBoston Founder
4/17/2013 10:11:00 PM
By Max
Over the last two years I have blogged every business day about a scene I love and care deeply about, the electronic music scene in Boston. I have done this ontop of my full time job and made a commitment to myself that I would never let my followers down and deliver content to them consistantly. Every business day since August of 2011 myself, and in fall of 2012 the team I know lead, have fulfilled that promise.
My commitment has always been to spread an honest word about the movement in Boston. I've gone to festivals and shows across the state and region to represent the city and EDM community.
Earlier this afternoon I wrote a piece asking our audience if it was too soon for Krewella to be performing in our city based on the facts and circumstances I had during my lunch break and posted it this evening. At that time I had no knowledge of Krewella making a GENEROUS donation to the victims, as their facebook nor pr rep had contacted me about such. For their kind donation I am grateful to them.
Hearing the news unfold yesterday and today has not been easy. Despite this I still held myself responsible to blog and my team. I thought I had a valid question- and still believe, is it to soon to party? Personally, I don't feel ready until this weekend. However, I understand if people, including members of my team, feel otherwise.
At no point in time was I writing as an insult to the people attending the show. We are all different, and if this scene has taught me anything it's acceptance. If a show is what it takes to get you back to normality I encourage you to go.
I look forward to continuing to be your source for electronic music and I'm sorry if I offended you.
Sincerely,
Max

Is Krewella Performing Too Soon After Boston Marathon Explosion?
4/17/2013 06:58:00 PM
krewella
It's been a trying week in Boston and the EDMBoston team, along with the rest of the city, have had heavy hearts due to the Boston Marathon Attack. The last thing on minds has been electronic music or whats happening outside of Boston.
Last night in Dorchester, the community remembered the lost live of 8 year old Martin Richard. He was one of three fatally injured by the ruthlessness of a crazed bomber that set target on the Boston marathon finish line. Thousands showed up to the vigil and the support was truly amazing!
Support has come far and wide from the dj community and beyond. Sporting teams showed their love and consideration by canceling games the day after the tragedy and remembering it two days proceeding in symbolic gestures. The bruins canceled their game monday. The red sox and yankees came together to embrace a clear message "united we stand".
Then there is krewella sending their own message. They will be performing in Boston at the Royale tonight. On facebook they posted:
"hi krew, it's been a really sad 24 hours for the US. no matter if you were personally affected by the tragedy in Boston or not, we can all feel the pain. our first show in Boston is still on for tomorrow night, and like we always say, music heals, so we'll be playing for anyone and everyone who's hurting. Love, prayers, and positive thoughts to all. ♥"
Despite the positive vibes, we have to question their intent as A-Trak, who was also scheduled to perform tonight, opted to cancel his show in consideration of those affected.
Is 3 days after a tragedy to soon for a party?
**UPDATE** Krewella has come out and said that they are donating half of show proceeds to charity. We have issued an apology for incorrect facts.

Major Lazer: Free the Universe album review
4/17/2013 10:17:00 AM
album release, free the universe, major lazer
By Streeter:
Major’s Lazer’s first full length album since the 2009 release of “Guns Don’t Kill People- Lazers Do” has brought some seriously rowdy and diverse sound to your speakers. The fictional Jamaican jarhead made famous by the current production crew of Diplo, Jillionaire, and Walshy Fire, opens the album with vocals from regular Diplo contributor Santigold in “You’re No Good.” The album opener is a slower more tribal sound than the typical dancehall tones heard on the rest of the album, but definitely showcases the diversity and complexity of this album’s sound. “Get Free” featuring Amber from the Dirty Projectorsis another song that slows things down a bit, with steely guitar sounds and a reggae rhythm, this track is much more laidback than the rest of the track list.
This album also features the previously released “Jah No Partial” collaboration between Major Lazer and Joshua Steele, more commonly known as Flux Pavilion. This track’s deep reggae roots give way to the hammering bass characteristic of Flux. Also included on this release are two remixes of this song including one from Skream and one from Heroes x Villains.
“Watch Out For This” is a bouncing dancehall jam that should be played at loud volume, marching out of your speakers with a unique fusion between moombahton and reggae this is a track to be sure to ‘watch out for’.
As if this album wasn’t already packed with big name collaborators, “Keep Cool” features the vocals of both Shaggy and Wynter Gordon. Unfortunately despite the big names, this track seemed confused in the sound that it tried to capture. The uplifting vocal hook from Wynter Gordon gets muddled down with too many samples that simply aren’t cohesive.
Laidback Luke brings his characteristic style to the next track on the album “Sweat” featuring the vocals of Ms. Dynamite. In keeping with the title of this dancehall jam, the hook brings the heat for anyone who feels like twerkin’ on the dance floor. And for those that feel like twerkin’ the night away “Bubble Butt” is a choppy dancehall track that features both Bruno Mars and Tyga.
Overall this second full length album, released on Secretly Canadian records, gets mixed reviews. While the diversity of this album is something to be admired, the eclectic sounds can sometimes be detrimental to a particular flow. With that said, this album masterfully meshes sounds characteristic of Jamaica/ West Africa with modern bass crushing beats. As Diplo spearhead’s the push to bring Jamaican dancehall back to the mainstream, there are certainly a few singles on this album that have the potential to blow up!
Buy the album on Major Lazer's site, and sound off in the comments on how you feel about Free The Universe!

I'm sure by now, everybody has heard of the tragedy of the boston marathon explosion that took place yesterday in our beloved city of Boston. At around 2:50 PM, two explosions rocked the finish line of the Boston Marathon. The explosions were twelve seconds apart and approximately 75 yards from each other, leaving three dead, 146 injured, and 17 in critical condition. Although Boston is a tough a resilient city, this horrific incident has left a a dark stain on a beautiful holiday celebrated across Massachusetts.
While this incident is terrible and very sad, it is also important to see the corporation and love shown across the city and the country. Bostonians all around the area rushed to the scene to help out in any way possible, and love was not only shown by locals.
Fellow members of the EDM community reached out to show there support for the Boston family. Big name artists such as:
Bassnectar
Sebastien Ingrosso
Richie Hawtin
Max Vangeli
Steve Angello

Arty
Thomas Gold
Skrillex
Junior Sanchez
Nervo
Alesso
Tiesto
Wolfgang Gartner

Dannic
Marcuz Schulz
Sander Van Doorn
Big Gigantic
Paper Diamond
expressed there sorrow and thoughts for the Boston family across social media. The artists showed a deep amount of consideration and care for the tragedy still unfolding in Boston. Lorin (Bassnectar) tweeted “Boston: All My Love! Wishing you peace and safety” as well as “Logged into twitter feeling light hearted and chill, now so saddened by violence in Boston.” Lorin plans to come to Boston in a few weeks and I’m sure will have lots of love for our city and have an extra special show.
Big Gigantic and Paper Diamond also shared there thoughts and prayers with the Boston community, both artists have recently been to Boston on tour and it was nice to see we are still on their minds. Big G posted on Facebook, “Boston family, hope all of you guys are ok over there!! Be safe, we’re thinkin about ya over here in CO!!” receiving over 640 likes.
Paper Diamond had an extra special message for the Boston family and even went on to do what he could to help out. In his post on Facebook he stated “My thoughts go out to all of those affected by the Boston Marathon explosions. Incredibly sad.” After this post, Paper Diamond went on too post links to help friends and families locate a runner in the chaos, live police coverage, as well as live television coverage on the web. His care for the incident and for everybody effected by the tragedy was clear and wont soon be forgotten in the city of Boston.
In the wake of this incident, we are also however reminded that ignorance is bliss. DJ Erick Morillo started his day off with a happy, peaceful message to the EDM world stating “Spreading peace and love to everyone. Hope your monday was a great way to start your week, 4 more days to the weekend!” Unfortunately, this beautiful message was masked by the horrific tragedy unfolding in Boston, and was instead received with negative and sad vibes. Soon after, Morillo went on to post “My heart goes out to all the victims of the Boston marathon bombing.”
This event that is still unfolding in Boston is a horrific tragedy. A beautiful day in our city should never have been masked by such a sad event, but there are still positives to be taken from it. The Boston community as well as the first responders and volunteers at the scene worked heroically to quickly and swiftly deal with such a terrible incident, and deserve all of the thanks and praise that can be given. Nobody can imagine having to deal with such a horrific and unexpected scene, but everybody on call responded timely and efficiently to comfort and help those effected by the tragedy. It is also important and comforting to know that individuals across the EDM community can band together and show love and support for our city. We are a close knit family banded together by a love for music, and when one part of us is effected, everyone feels the pain. I am happy and proud to see that some of our favorite artists can step up and share their love and thoughts for us in our time of need. This is a terrible tragedy, but Boston is a tough city that will band together and get through the rough times, and the support of those around the country is much appreciated.
EDM Boston would like to express our most sincere thoughts and prayers for those effected by the events at the Boston Marathon yesterday, and we wish everyone the best from here on. Now is a time to be there for each other and to help our beautiful city recover from such a sad incident. I love our city, and I love that dirty water.
If anybody would like to help with the Boston Marathon aftermath of this incident, please donate to the One Fund establish by Deval Patrick, Massachusetts Governor and Thomas Menino, Mayor of Boston.
