Daft Punk Moves Forward with Columbia Records

By Kyle D:

Most music fans are familiar with the Grammy-winning, French electro-house duo, Daft Punk. Daft Punk consists of two French DJs, Guy-Manuel de Homen- Christo and Thomas Bangalter. This dominant duo has produced some of dance music's most well known house anthems, such as the classic "One More Time", having been a major part of the EDM scene since the early 90’s. By 2007, Daft Punk's shows were exclusive and legendary as they produced less music,  and began to fall off the radar.

The electronic duo has yet to release any new music since they were featured in the Tron: Legacy soundtrack in 2010, released by Walt Disney records. Since the release of the soundtrack, Daft Punk has been laying low leaving fans wondering if their reign had come to an end. However, recently rumors of a new album set to be released in the Spring of 2013 have exploded across the EDM community.

Read more about the new album after the jump:

The French duo have just signed a new record deal with the Sony-owned Columbia label. Let me repeat myself. Daft Punk signed with Columbia records. Why would a world-dominating group sign with such a major record label if they weren't planning something massive? Although they have not formally announced their new album, they more or less confirmed the rumors recently via their website. A link to Daft Punk's new website was recently posted on the Facebook page; consisting of a new album cover with a Columbia Records label in the corner. They are thought to release this new album in May of 2013, and its their first studio album in EIGHT years. Sources have said that the two have been collaborating with many well known artists today, such as Chic’s Nile Rodgers, but it is still unclear as to what kind of contribution these artists will have. Rodgers was quoted saying “The next time I set foot in Japan, my collaboration with Daft Punk would have started to hit people’s eardrums...”

Everyone involved has done a great job of keeping all information on the down low. It is still unknown as to whether or not the group will be touring after sources were stated saying that there is no chance of a 2013 Daft Punk tour. Even though we don't know a lot, one thing is for sure. All EDM fans should be looking forward to the release of this new album, as it is going to change the future of dance music.
