Modestep Boston Show Cut Short By Sound Issues & Band Cursing Out Royale

What started off as a another promising night at Royale ended in disappointment for those in attendance, as Modestep walked off stage following a profanity-laced tirade directed at Royale management regarding a disagreement about the sound system.

As the band took the stage for their Boston Show, the crowd was rearing to go, in anticipation for the heavy show Modestep is known to bring (read our Modestep Preview). A dubstep and drum and base band from the United Kingdom, Modestep brings a unique sound to the table, mixing elements of live hard rock and metal with electronic music. Following the release of their debut album, Evolution Theory, they kicked off their first ever American tour with stops at both weekends of Ultra Music Festival, as well as SXSW in Austin, TX. With their single, "Sunlight" being remixed by numerous artists recently (I personally heard it played at the majority of dubstep acts at Ultra), the band has quite a buzz surrounding their tour.

Fans who turned out to Royale Nightclub last night were, however, in for quite a disappointment. The show started off strong, as they hopped quickly between songs, mixing in some of their own tracks such as "Bite the Hand", "Praying for Silence", and "Feel Good", as well as remixes of Skrillex's "Promises", Flux Pavilion's "I Can't Stop", and Knife Party's "Fire Hive". The crowd, although relatively small, was as energetic as I have seen at Royale, and the show was just starting to get rowdy when, ...
during their remix of DJ Fresh's "Louder" (ironically enough), their sub-woofers started to fade out, cutting out the sound from the synthesizer.

After trying to get the system working, lead singer, Josh Friend angrily stated that the show had almost never happened to begin with. "They told us our sub-woofer was too big for the venue, but then told us that we could go ahead anyway. Now they're going back on their word. You all should rip up your tickets and never come back to this fucking venue ever again," he said, walking off to chants of "Modestep" and "Fuck Royale" from the confused crowd.

Whoever is to blame for the mix-up (pun intended), I think it is safe to say that everyone involved was sorry to see the show end in such an unpleasant manner.
