4. Big Gigantic's Dominic Lalli's Saxophone & Drummer Jeremy Salken

Nowhere in electronic dance music can you find a live saxophone player on stage except at a Big Gigantic show.

The first time I heard Big Gigantic, I had just emerged onto the floor of the Hampton Coliseum after a 13-hour, 615-mile odyssey down the east coast from Boston to Virginia for BassLights 2012. However we didn't know the prize that would lie on the otherside of the 10 mile backup to get to the venue. The very first sounds that washed over us were the funky Saxophone rhythms of Big Gigantic. Every ounce of stress I had been feeling up until that moment dissipated, like vapor, and I was carried away on the soaring notes from Dominic Lalli's saxophone.

Dominic & Jeremy combined to unleash a wall of sound that feels both unhinged and flowing. Lalli's sax weaves through every tune, guiding the melody, while Salken's drumming drives alongside the thumping, bass-heavy beats.

It's incredibly refreshing to hear two instruments wielded so masterfully over funky groovey electronic dance beats.  For evidence of the honeyed funkiness, see "Sky High," a track that features one of Lalli's most soulful sax solos over a beat that thumps with bass.

Ticketmaster's New Ticket Scalping Prevention Tool

Tired of ticket scalping bastards hoarding tickets before you have the chance to hit submit, on the captcha screen?

Well Ticketmaster is rolling out a new tool to help fans. The tool will give ticketmaster customers the ability to transfer tickets to another person/account for no additional fees. The feature will be available under the "My account" section on TM. If you wish to utilize it you can transfer tickets by entering in how many tickets you'd like to transfer, the name, and email address of the recipient. The receiver will then log into their account and click accept.

The new seamless feature to combat ticket scalping will also be available on their mobile app beginning this spring.

“As the industry leader, Ticketmaster continues to introduce transformational products that revolutionize the fan and client experience,” said Michael Rapino, CEO of Live Nation Entertainment, in a prepared statement, calling Ticket Transfer “the most trustworthy, fastest, easiest, and environmentally-conscious way ever introduced.”

If your worried about security, fear not. The system has the ability to cancel the original bar codes on tickets and issue a new one, for a safe secure transfer.

There is one caveat, the transfer system will not accomodate paperless tickets. Ticket Master CEO Nathan Hubbard said it would “defeat the purpose” of paperless in its attempt to prevent scalping. “While they are only .01% of the tickets we sell, artists can still select to paperless tickets in the traditional method where the ticket is tied to the purchasing credit card. As we have seen, this is a proven method curbing scalping, reduces scalping by 75%.”

Feed Me With Teeth: Royale Show Review

A week after I walked out of Feed Me's Feb. 5 show at the Royale, there's an image still seared in my mind that won't dissolve away.

It's one of those images that functions like a portal to a particular moment in time. If you've ever been affected - spiritually, emotionally, physically - by the all-consuming sensory time warp of a live electronic music show, you probably have at least one of these images stored away.    

What I keep seeing is a massive set of jagged LED teeth, stretched in a devilish grin across the width of the Royale's stage, waiting to come to alive with light. Above the teeth, a pair of slanted, menacing eyes peers over the crowd. A man appears between the eyes, the restless onlookers sense him in the shadows, and roars erupt as the night is set in motion.

Kaskade Demands Focus on EDM at Grammys

On Sunday at the Grammy's it was business as usual, in fact almost a near repeat performance of the prior edition on the awards show.  Sonny Moore, aka Skrillex, ran the gambit of electronic categorizes he was nominated for and walked away with 3 prized Grammy trophies in tote, just as he did in the year prior.  In surprising fashion he even beat out 2012's biggest track Levels by Avicii.  However, that wasn't the highlite of the night for electronic music.

EDMBoston believes the big story happened back stage at the Grammy's.  The vocal Kaskade spoke out to the press core about things needing to change at the Grammys.  Kaskade brought light to the fact that "Best Dance Recording" and "Dance/Electronica Album" are only relegated to the untelevised pre-cast at the Grammys.  Meaning not one person in the primetime audience last night witnessed the riches 2012's electronic music had to offer.
